We loved the playful, abstract appliques but felt the grayscale was too drab. I like color! So we kept the monochromatic look but are swapping out the gray for shades of happier yellow. I may have even done a mock-up in Illustrator for our baker…
Congratulations to our winner, mcnetn3!

Mr. Lox and I finally have the complete set of numbers to give to the venue. So I thought, in the interest of full disclosure, that I would share them here. I’m going to limit our discussion to the adults we invited. As we’ve discussed before, we invited everyone’s children. However, a lot of folks chose to leave the young ones at home, so including the children in our numbers doesn’t give an accurate sense of our acceptance rate. And honestly, I’m pretty pleased with where we landed so I wanted you all to get a solid idea of it.
Here we go!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Sometimes I get sad that we won’t be able to have the rustic wedding in the woods that we originally envisioned. I spent a good six months researching and planning this rustic-yet-elegant wooded affair, and sometimes it is hard to stop myself from collecting and cataloging ideas for that type of wedding. I do love our new ceremony location (See what I did? I called it new even though we never “had” the other location—clearly I need more time to heal.), but I still get jealous when I see images like these:

I started designing the back of the postcard. I loved this vintage postcard graphic that I found on Martha Stewart and worked from there.

Hive, meet Mr. O’s wedding ring and my wedding ring. That’s them up there, posing for their very first glamour shot…and they’re super best friends.
We picked up these besties—who we designed with the amazingly talented Gordon Aatlo—two weeks ago and we were so excited because they looked so FANCY! And very us. Mr. O wanted something understated and classic…and I wanted sapphires infused into a bezeled micropave band, because a) they’re gorgeous, and b) they were the first precious stone (in a pair of earrings) I wore as a gift from my parents.
…is go to another person’s wedding. I’m not saying to bust into a random church on any given Saturday, hoping to crash an unsuspecting couple’s ceremony and then follow them to their reception. Although that could be kind of fun.

Soon after Cinnamon Buns proposed, we tossed around a few ideas for our honeymoon. We knew we’d both have time off in the summer to go places, as theatres tend not to run during the summer, thus putting us artsy types out of our regular work. At this point, we could book our honeymoon any time in July and August and not have any conflicts. Sadly, we can’t afford to go anywhere for two months, as I need some time to come back and temp in some office to pay for it!
My original criteria were that I wanted the beach, sunshine, and people to bring me drinks with umbrellas in them all day long. He thought that sounded fun, but was also thinking much bigger than I was. What about somewhere we’d always wanted to go? Make it a huge trip? Egypt! Or Japan! Then the year went on, and we decided that maybe we should wait until Egypt settles down a bit and Japan gets back on its feet.
I was happily researching all-inclusives in Jamaica, Mexico, and Costa Rica when Cinnamon Buns said, “What about New Zealand?”
I can’t believe I haven’t posted any pictures of my engagement ring up to this point! We’ve already been engaged for, like, forever!
I wanted to post pictures way sooner, I promise. The problem was that the majority of the pictures I had of my ring were blurry, and the pics that weren’t had my hand in them. (We got engaged in the winter, and that’s when I get elephant hands—yes, that’s a technical term. As soon as Mom Hyena saw the pictures of my ring on my finger she told me, “You have GOT to do something about your hands!” So I wasn’t too keen on putting those out there.)
Now that my ring has had its own little photo shoot, I can show her off for the web to see!
Please indulge me!
Hi hive! Just a quick update on the server issues we’ve been having!
If you’ve been around frequently yesterday and today, you’ll notice that the site was armageddoncatastrophybroken for a good portion of the day, and once it was restored, many images appeared broken and continue to appear broken. Our server hosts had a huge blackout yesterday that affected many sites across the web, including Weddingbee. We’re slowly returning to normal, and at this point in time, our host reports that we’ll be completely back to normal in 5-6 hours. Of course, that’s just an estimate, and we’re all waiting on pins and needles for everything to return to normal.
There have been some publishing blips that have occurred as a result (for instance, all scheduled posts just went live all at once for about 10 minutes there!) and we’ve pulled them back to be scheduled as normal—so if you saw a post that you wanted to revisit but it’s gone, have no fear! It’ll be back up soon.
We appreciate your patience, you’ve all been so supportive here, on Facebook and on Twitter! Some of my favorite sites went down yesterday as well, and I never realized how much I relied on them to get me through the day until there was a major outage.
And while we’re on the subject, I know that you’ve all seen the Weddingbee Maintenance Man much more frequently in the past month. Weddingbee’s experiencing an incredibly high volume of traffic (YAY!) that we’re not equipped to handle (BOO!) but tech is working hard to scale the site to a much more manageable size so we can properly handle the influx of traffic. We’ve begrudgingly dubbed him “Mr. Wendal” (thanks to Mrs. Kiwi for the name!) and we hope that we will never see him again very, very soon. A huge thanks to our tech team who works hard to keep up with all that we demand of them here at Weddingbee. ![]()
Something I haven’t mentioned around here is this ooone tiny little detail—we are having a second reception in NY.
Recently, I’ve been talking to some friends who were having the problem of location; so many couples I know come from different states, if not opposite sides of the country. It can be so stressful to figure out where to have the wedding because sometimes, just choosing the location automatically means that certain people in your life can’t (or won’t) go. I can’t tell you how many people have given me the FACE and the incredulous/pouty “Why aren’t you having the wedding HERE???”

Guest list? Check. Table arrangements? Check. Seating assignments? Oh, how we wanted to leave people to work things out for themselves! Without getting into the murky details, let’s just say there are enough delicate relationships amongst one of our families that motivated us not only to have assigned tables, but assigned seating as well. We’re hoping the extra effort will prevent explosive combinations from coming together while simultaneously taking some pressure off our guests: couples are guaranteed to be seated next to one another, friends will be clustered together, buffers will be placed in between conflicting personalities, and hopefully no one will be the wiser. In between the ceremony and the cocktail hour, an easel with our framed seating chart will be placed in the room for our guests to peruse at their leisure over strawberry lemonade and hors d’oeuvres:
Our seating chart: still a work in progress!
Each of the rectangular tables we’re putting end-on-end to create the long, banquet-style tables will have a number assigned to it:
