Mrs. Candy Apple, Princeton Junction, NJ/ Seattle, WAAge and Occupation: 26, Project EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, AttorneyEngagement Date: May 9, 2010Wedding Date: August 2011Venue: St. Joseph's Parish, Seattle Tennis ClubAbout Me: I am a Pacific Northwesterner, born and bred. I have lived in many cities---Santa Clara, Durham (England); Florence; Boston; Princeton Junction---but my heart will always be nestled up near the Cascades and Olympics, which is why we are holding our wedding there. I am a bookworm and a History nerd: I love that my life consists of books, books, and more books, since I work in Publishing! Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). Oh, and did I mention my obsession with wedding blogs? Yeah, there’s that too. Join Mr. Candy Apple and me as we prep for our wedding, and, more importantly, our marriage!
Hmm. Not that kind of gold digger. But I think you knew that. No, I am in fact referring to that classic song by Mr. Kanye West. You know the one: We want prenup! WE WANT PRENUP! (How can you hear that and NOT want to get up and shake your booty?!)
Ah yes, that old debate over (discussion of?) prenuptial agreements. Read more…
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PAAge and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, EngineerEngagement Date: April 9, 2010Wedding Date: August 2011Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club receptionAbout Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
Before becoming engaged, I occasionally browsed through a wedding magazine, here or there…nothing too serious. (Truth: I had two wedding-magazine subscriptions starting freshman year of college, and I inherited most of my SIL’s old magazines after she married my brother.) So, when a girl who has weddings on the brain accumulates a five-foot stack (no joke) of wedding magazines, it’s really no surprise that she’ll give in to temptation and officially start brainstorming wedding ideas. For me, my eyes could only focus on one thing: the dress.
Mrs. Waffle, AustinAge and Occupation: 31, Costumer/ArtistFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, AnimatorEngagement Date: July 27, 2010Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Hummingbird HouseAbout Me: My life is pretty much spent in a sea of fabric, paint, sequins and drama. When I’m not working, I play on a trivia team, take Broadway dance classes, read, buy shoes, and occasionally geek out on video games. I am an American girl who loves all things British and Mr. Waffle is a Brit who loves all things American...I guess it was meant to be!
I figured, since I’m a seamstress and all, I should do a few posts on tips and tricks to help out in the event of a wardrobe malfunction. Not to frighten anyone, but someone, be it you or your Great Aunt Betsy, will more than likely have one at the wedding and it is always good to be prepared.
Every bride should bring an emergency sewing kit to the wedding. Period. End of story. Even if you don’t know how to sew, I can guarantee someone at the wedding does. As a matter of fact, most of these tools will make it so that sewing isn’t even an issue. So, here is what I always keep in my kit when I’m working backstage and crisis strikes.
Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TXAge and Occupation: 23, Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Downtown 202About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
Planning the wedding often makes me want to cry and rip all my hair out, so planning a wedding AND a rehearsal dinner was almost too much to bear. (Yeah, yeah, wedding planning is supposed to be fun, but when you are a stressy, panicky person in the first place, becoming a stressy, panicky bride is fun for no one.)
Luckily, I have an awesome fiancé who volunteered to do a good chunk of the planning for the rehearsal dinner. He’s done a great job—we’ve figured out where we can get the food catered and the cost, and his most recent project was scouting out locations. We settled on a pavilion area with picnic tables at a local park.

Travel (near or far), good wine, and tasty food makes my heart sing. I'm a compulsive list-maker who lives to plan and organize. Mr. P and I have lived together for 4 years, all the while renovating our city townhome bit by bit. We're planning a whimsical, Anthropologie-inspired garden wedding in June 2011.

Hello, Hive. Long time no hear from me. I couldn’t stay silent on this project. I thought there might be a lot of you who want to do it!
I have been super inspired by burlap lately and wanted to make a banner! It turned out to be a super easy project and I wanted to share with you the details:

Mrs. Husky, DenverAge and Occupation: 26, Systems AdministratorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid offEngagement Date: August 14, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Rancho San CarlosAbout Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
As you may have already seen from the Husky Recaps, we hired Mark of Mark Hayes Photography to capture the meaningful moments of our wedding day. I cannot speak enough praise for Mark’s professionalism, unique eye, and genuine passion for his craft. After our pool hall engagement session, we had high expectations for our wedding photos, and he more than delivered!
Mrs. Jaguar, SydneyAge and Occupation: 27, Primary School TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT ConsultantEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Curzon HallAbout Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
I’ve been using the school holiday break to tackle a few little DIY-projects that I’ve been putting off. I started with our place cards: next up on the agenda were our table menus. Our venue gave us the option of printing them for us, but at $10 per menu, I balked & decided to do it ourselves.
I already knew that I wanted to keep the costs down – and I had the perfect solution in mind. I visited my favourite-store-of-all-time, Ikea, and stocked up on these babies:

Like a dutiful bride-to-be, after getting engaged, I immediately began researching what I needed to do and by when. I looked at a whole bunch of checklists and timelines from a couple different sources, eager to make sure that I wasn’t falling behind in the wedding-planning mayhem. Most of the items were straightforward, and I had no problem tackling them right away. Get a church? Sure. Book a reception spot? No problem. Pick your bridal party? Got it. However, one item kind of gave me pause, since I’m not fully convinced it’s a necessary step in wedding planning.
Ms. Gazelle, Calgary/VancouverAge and Occupation: 32, EngineerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Technology AnalystEngagement Date: September 3, 2010Wedding Date: July 2011Venue: Brock House Restaurant, VancouverAbout Me: I am a marathon runner, cyclist, Ironman triathlete and beautiful shoe fiend who also loves kicking back and watching Glee. I grew up a bit of a nomad as I traveled around the world with my family, living everywhere from Australia to England to South America and Indonesia. I finally settled in Calgary a few years ago and met Mr. Gazelle who loves me even though we cheer for different hockey teams. We are planning a bit of a destination wedding in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia and we can’t wait to share the day with our close family and friends.
Early on in the planning, Mr. Gazelle and I knew that we would like to go on a honeymoon as soon as possible after the wedding. Time would be limited, though. We have to take time off before the wedding to travel to it, so we only have a few days after the wedding to take a trip. As much as we might have liked to wax poetic about a honeymoon to Europe, we knew it wasn’t possible. We didn’t want to put off a honeymoon till later in the year when we might be able to take more time off, as we were worried something would come up and we’d never go on that honeymoon.
So, instead, we focused on someplace reasonably close by that we could go to right after the wedding, i.e., somewhere in North America. Beaches were out, as we weren’t looking to relax, but were looking to see someplace cool.
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
Our guests were just starting to arrive as I rushed into the venue, ran through the kitchen (some people were already seated in the ceremony room, and I didn’t want to walk through it and be seen!) and dove into the bridal room.
My nerves were running high, but thankfully there was champagne in the room to help calm me down. The time I spent in this room is a bit of a blur to me, because I was so incredibly nervous and excited. I just remember pacing around the room and trying not to throw up. I’ve never in my life been so excited for anything. Read more…
Mrs. Pony, Bloomington, ILAge and Occupation: 25, AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, AttorneyEngagement Date: March 22, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: Mackinaw Valley Vineyard; Bloomington Center for the Performing ArtsAbout Me: I found my Southern counterpart in law school and since he popped the question last March, we have been busy graduating, job searching, bar taking, and wedding planning. My loves include must see TV, magnets, quotes, anything green, my car, fun socks, the Cubs, and my Mr. Together we love wine, playing outside, and exploring the world together. Stay tuned to see our Midwest wedding full of Southern charm, vintage flair, lots of DIY details, and a whole lot o’ wine.
In an effort to get some more menial projects out of the way while I have some desire and patience left, I decided to dedicate some time recently to making table numbers. First, I had to make the all-important decision of what they should be. There are so many creative, fun, and gorgeous ideas out there it can be hard to choose.
For example, the customary number can be fun and creative, as evidenced by Mrs. Lovebug:
Mrs. Bacon, ChicagoAge and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client ServicesEngagement Date: June 17, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: Ravenswood Billboard FactoryAbout Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
Our budget for flowers is pretty meager by city standards, but since we knew that we weren’t doing floral centerpieces, I wasn’t worried. I love the look of a cluster of candles and I’m excited that we’ll be honoring my grandmother through a donation, so personal flowers was definitely the route we wanted to go.
The weekend before my first meeting with a florist, I sat down and made three different inspiration boards of flowers that I liked—the first was red for me and the mister, the second was white for all the attendants and the last was anemones because I love them and wish they were in season in September. I had always said that I wanted a round bouquet of deep red roses, then in college, it was edited to specifically American Beauty roses in honor of my sorority’s flower, but when it came time to choose my real flowers for my wedding, I wanted something more lush and texturized with more spunk and whimsy. Suddenly I was adding fiddlehead ferns and lotus pods to the list of “flowers” I loved.

I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
There was serious cause for celebration at chez Tartlet last week because our RSVP list is finally complete! Oh, memories *cue hazy flashback*: our save the dates were sent a year before the wedding. We mailed ourinvitations in February, and set our RSVP deadline a month before the wedding. Our guaranteed numbers are due 2 weeks before the wedding, which allowed us 2 weeks to hunt down and conquer any delinquent invitees. I’m a gal who appreciates data sets, so it’s no surprise that I looked for statistics while I was in the throes of weighing how many guests to invite vs. how many to expect. Following in the footsteps of Miss Sloth, here’s the statistical breakdown for our wedding:
Total guests invited: 86; 13 of which were +1s (we gave this option to those who were in long-term relationships or who would otherwise not know anyone else at the wedding)

The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
Come now and declare your union. And we who love you, declare our intent to hold you dear forever and ever.
I, Brian/Amanda, take you, Amanda/Brian, to be my wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow.
