Mrs. Meerkat, Kalamazoo, MI/Riviera MayaAge and Occupation: 30, Application EngineerFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, IT ConsultantEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: Al Cielo / La LagunaAbout Me: I’m a tech-savvy tomboy with an affinity for hot tea and good sushi. Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.

I grew up a bit of a nomad as I traveled around the world with my family, living everywhere from Australia to England to South America and Indonesia. I finally settled in Calgary a few years ago and met Mr. Gazelle who loves me even though we cheer for different hockey teams. We are planning a bit of a destination wedding in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia and we can’t wait to share the day with our close family and friends.
Oy…flowers. The one downside of planning a wedding in a different city is trying to figure out where to go for flowers. There are so many florists in Vancouver that it is so daunting to try and narrow things down. I really wanted to set up consultations while we were in Vancouver in the fall, so I tried two plans of attack for finding a florist.
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PAAge and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, EngineerEngagement Date: April 9, 2010Wedding Date: August 2011Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club receptionAbout Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
I am still beside myself that I actually get to do this, but hellooooo, hive!! I’ll admit it. For the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to avoid the temptation of checking my email, giving in and checking it more often than I’d like to admit, and feeling guilty that I didn’t have better self-control. It was a wicked little cycle, but the good news is there’s a happy ending to it all! Yesterday, on a somewhat shadester bus I take to and from my part-time job, I got an email titled “Weddingbee Application.” My heart stopped for a quick second before I decided to take the plunge and open it. I saw a lot of exclamation points, the phrase “great addition to the Weddingbee team,” and a list of character options. I audibly gasped and then proceeded to creepily giggle to myself for the rest of the commute, further adding to the shadester environment of that lovely little bus.
Mrs. Candy Apple, Princeton Junction, NJ/ Seattle, WAAge and Occupation: 26, Project EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, AttorneyEngagement Date: May 9, 2010Wedding Date: August 2011Venue: St. Joseph's Parish, Seattle Tennis ClubAbout Me: I am a Pacific Northwesterner, born and bred. I have lived in many cities---Santa Clara, Durham (England); Florence; Boston; Princeton Junction---but my heart will always be nestled up near the Cascades and Olympics, which is why we are holding our wedding there. I am a bookworm and a History nerd: I love that my life consists of books, books, and more books, since I work in Publishing! Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). Oh, and did I mention my obsession with wedding blogs? Yeah, there’s that too. Join Mr. Candy Apple and me as we prep for our wedding, and, more importantly, our marriage!
Let me start by mentioning that I was not the girl who had her whole wedding planned by age seven. Nope. In fact, aside from the occassional “sigh I really need to marry Leonardo DiCaprio” (ah, to be a tween again), marriage didn’t really cross my mind in passing until I was in high school, and I didn’t think about it seriously until college. But, even then, I was too busy with other things that seemed more important. Like my thesis, and beach volleyball, and finding a job after graduation. Marriage could wait; I was in no hurry. So, when I got engaged, I didn’t have a massive binder full of wedding scenarios, budgets, and inspiration that I had compiled over the years.
I will admit, though, that I started subscribing to Martha Stewart Weddings about two years before we got engaged. Why? Who knows? I definitely didn’t expect a proposal! I think it stemmed more from the fact that I just love looking at the pretty, pretty pictures. And we all know my obsession with florals. Every once in a while, I would rip pages out of the magazines—checklists, etiquette, wording for invitations, bouquets—that caught my eye, and I would file them away for later. And by “file them away for later,” I mean I would stick them on a bookshelf where they would gather dust and, after they got too dusty and old, I would toss them. Oopsie. But mainly I would browse through the magazines, and then they’d go out with the recycling.
In all my time spent leafing through the lovely mags, one thing that I didn’t really look at or care about was the dresses. As in, the dress. For some reason, I just never really cared about wedding dresses. Don’t hate me. OK, actually, that’s a lie—I did enjoy looking at the pictures of gorgeous dresses in the magazines. But, I never really looked at them purposefully, with the thought of “what do I want my wedding dress to look like.” I mainly flipped past the dress ads; they just weren’t high on my list of interests! I would much prefer looking at beautiful flowers, and fun signature drinks, and funky, fresh stationery than figuring out what type of fabric I wanted to drape myself in on the big day.
Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, AlbertaAge and Occupation: 26, Stage ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre TechnicianEngagement Date: June 22, 2010Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Calgary Opera CentreAbout Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.

Mrs. Seal, San FranciscoAge and Occupation: 25, Personal AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support SpecialistEngagement Date: December 12, 2009Wedding Date: November 2011Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently ReserveAbout Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
Mrs. Pashmina, NYC/Catalina Island, CAAge and Occupation: 28, Arts EducationFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, IT AdministratorEngagement Date: April 26th, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catalina Country Club, Catalina Island, CaliforniaAbout Me: I'm a laid-back Cali girl who moved to NYC for school, and ended up staying for love. My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.
My three junior bridesmaids are gorgeous! They have this heavy and thick wavy hair. We are always playing and experimenting with it. One of my favorite hairdos on them is a summer chic, half-up Bohemian braid. Originally I was looking at braid hairdos for me, but I just loved it for the junior BMs, who are 10, 13, 15. It is cute without being too cutesy, and it is totally up my alley; our wedding was more of a natural and relaxed one. Basically, this hairdo reminds me of home in California and how perfect is was for our outdoor courtyard wedding there!
I was trying to look up some pictures online because as a penny pincher we would be doing all the kids’ hair ourselves. While on my search I found something better: Read more…
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NCAge and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social WorkerFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, ResearcherEngagement Date: December 1, 2009Wedding Date: October 2011Venue: Barn at ValhallaAbout Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!

Travel (near or far), good wine, and tasty food makes my heart sing. I'm a compulsive list-maker who lives to plan and organize. Mr. P and I have lived together for 4 years, all the while renovating our city townhome bit by bit. We're planning a whimsical, Anthropologie-inspired garden wedding in June 2011.
Whenever Mr. Pain au Chocolat catches me admiring my engagement ring, he teases, “It’s only rock salt and tin foil.” The joke is on him because my lovely has a new sparkly friend…
Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TXAge and Occupation: 23, Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Downtown 202About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
I don’t know how this will work with my veil or whatever hairstyle I end up choosing, but I waahaahaaaaant a hair flower. I NEED one. I don’t know why, but I will not rest until I get one! I’ve yet to make any purchases from Etsy, but that was the first place I looked for some purty hair doodads, and here’s what I came up with:
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
My absolute favorite photos from the day were our college campus pictures. One of our wedding requirements was having photos taken at Salve. We chose to get married in Newport because of all of our history there. We really wanted to make the college photos happen. We paid $150 to reserve the site and it was well worth it.

Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VAAge and Occupation: 25, Writer/EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk ManagerEngagement Date: October 3, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: Oxon Hill ManorAbout Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
It’s the morning of our wedding and I’m sitting on the balcony of my suite overlooking the water. I’m finally wearing the bride robe I eyed for months, maybe even years. The weather is beautiful and it’s supposed to be in the mid-70s, perfect for our garden ceremony.
Everyone told me the days leading up to our wedding were going to be busy, but you’ll never really understand it until it’s your time. This last week has been a such a whirlwind with last-minute projects and errands. The pay-off will be grand, though. I have already experienced a taste of it. Our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner went off without a hitch. Families were mingling and friends from out of town came to our sides. We’ve all been anticipating this day.
I can’t help but think this is our time. This is our moment for life. This is the peak of our relationship and the day we’ve both been waiting for forever. Since before the planning, through tough times and bad relationships, this day has been in the making. The day we realize our God-destined plan to spend eternity together. We’ve arrived! Read more…
