Mrs. Candy Apple, Princeton Junction, NJ/ Seattle, WA Age and Occupation: 26, Project Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Attorney Engagement Date: May 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: St. Joseph's Parish, Seattle Tennis Club About Me: I am a Pacific Northwesterner, born and bred. I have lived in many cities---Santa Clara, Durham (England); Florence; Boston; Princeton Junction---but my heart will always be nestled up near the Cascades and Olympics, which is why we are holding our wedding there. I am a bookworm and a History nerd: I love that my life consists of books, books, and more books, since I work in Publishing! Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). Oh, and did I mention my obsession with wedding blogs? Yeah, there’s that too. Join Mr. Candy Apple and me as we prep for our wedding, and, more importantly, our marriage!

April 10th, 2011 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Candy Apple

I have always loved stationery and, well, correspondence in general. I loved signing up for pen pals in school and always wrote thank you cards, birthday cards, letters, etc. to family members and friends. In my mind, nothing can compare to a good old-fashioned letter (even if my handwriting sucks). So, the stationery aspects of our wedding hold a special little nook in my heart. Who knows—maybe that’s why they’re proving so difficult/annoying for me? More on that later, I suppose.

Anyway, since I have become a bride-to-be, I catch myself starting to over-analyze the teensy, weensy things that normal people (i.e., guests) will never in a million years notice. Let’s just call it the bridal crazies. So, naturally, one of the first wedding purchases I made was a customized return-address stamp. Damn you, Martha Stewart, for planting the idea in my brain (but just kidding, I love you—please don’t stop posting “good things”).

Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. About Mrs. Seal

Warning: For the purpose of telling a story, this particular blog contains a bunch of pictures of me. I personally found it pretty unnerving to see my face over ten times on a single page, so I thought I’d save you the shock and give you all a head’s up.

My “weight-loss journey” has been a long one. I wasn’t always overweight. Though I was over nine pounds when I was born, as a child I was pretty skinny (or at least average if nothing else).

Halloween, Homecoming, and Hotels

April 9th, 2011 @ 4:00 pm by Mrs. Magic

We are getting married at the end of October, near Halloween, and Halloween in Chapel Hill is a big freakin’ deal. The town of Chapel Hill has been promoting a “Homegrown Halloween” and trying to tone it down from the 80,000 folks who attended in years past. Since Chapel Hill only has about 55,000 people in it, that’s a lot of extra people running around in costumes on Franklin Street.

On Large Families and Letting Go

April 9th, 2011 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Hyena

I recently had a major meltdown. We were trying to figure out who we needed to invite to the rehearsal dinner. While we’d love to invite everyone coming from out of town, about three-fourths of our guests are coming from at least two hours away, and we unfortunately can’t accommodate everyone. The rehearsal dinner was not the reason for the meltdown, but rather the breaking point.

My bridesmaids are all really far away, and I feel like I’m doing the bulk of planning on my own. I think I’m doing all right so far, and everyone keeps commenting on how on top of things I am. But because I’m alone in planning today, I’m assuming—incorrectly—that I’ll be alone the day of. We’re not going to have a day-of coordinator other than the one provided at the church. For the reception, we’re on our own.

About Mrs. Seal

When it came time to decide what kind of ceremony we would have, the decision was not without thought. For a short breath we considered doing a “room flip” and having the reception and ceremony at the same locale, but it seemed like too much work, and extra work means extra room for error! (Extra room for error means extra anxiety for Miss Seal.) Plus, Mr. S and I were both baptized Catholic, and the traditional side of me really wanted to have a big church wedding like my parents had.

Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

Once we had made the decision to forgo traditional favours and donate to a charity instead, the question arose: how would we let guests know this? I didn’t want to clutter the tables with loads of different pieces of information—there’s already going to be enough on each one, what with cutlery, dinner-sets, glassware, centrepieces, and table numbers/menus taking up space!

Then, it hit me: what if I incorporated the message into something else that would already be on each table? I’ve been trying to avoid using traditional folded name-tags on our wedding tables, only because I’ve seen them at every wedding I’ve ever been to—and I’ve been searching for alternatives ever since. Remember when I’d decided to do scripted doily place cards to sit over the plates at the table? That didn’t work out, since our venue doesn’t have plates set up on the tables until food is served. Instead, I thought back to how the tables would look on the day, as you can see in this {slightly blurry} picture I took during a recent visit.

I can’t wait to show our guests the wonderful Lake Garda, Verona, and want our wedding to be a fun filled, charming, day in the life of “La dolce vita.” Mr. C and I love spending time together, and have added wedding related activities to our cooking nights, dance lessons, and road trips. We love sampling restaurants, could listen to Sinatra all day, and are just a tad geeky and into technology. As we want all of our passions to be part of our marriage, what better way to start than by incorporating them in our wedding day?
About Miss Carousel

In my previous post I explained the reasons why we decided to create a wedding wedsite and how reaching a successful final result helped us feel more confident in our potential as a team.

Step 1: Privacy settings

It is very important to decide how much information you want to make public on the web. Personal details on you and your FI (dates, ages, wedding date, locations) could easily be used by the wrong people to gain access to your identity, accounts and home. For this reason Mr. Caro and I have decided to install password protection to the site and to make it non indexed by search engines. This means that the site can only be accessed via a password and that it will never turn up on a search result list from a search engine.

Cinna-suit

April 8th, 2011 @ 5:31 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

We didn’t spend much time looking in stores around here for Cinnamon Buns’ suit. Being from a province where everyone brags about our beef and where it seems like 80% of restaurants call themselves steak houses, well, let’s just say that there are a lot of ‘Big & Tall’ suit shops around. Cinnamon Buns is not big, and both of us would be laughed out of any shop that has ‘tall’ in the name. So we were looking for a nice black suit (with vest!) that would come in the right size, with a price we could afford.

Enter Indochino. Indochino is a website that sells custom-made suits! You put in your measurements, pick your suit, click through the customizing steps and BOOM. Suit tailored to you delivered to your door in a few weeks. Three weeks, in our case! We ordered their “tailor’s kit” first, to get a feel for the suit fabrics. With the cheap suit prices, I was expecting cheap, unacceptable, shiny fabric, but they were really nice good quality wool. We picked this one, the Black Day At The Office suit:

Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.

And They’re Off!

April 8th, 2011 @ 5:06 pm by Mrs. Lox

Last week, our DOC was getting started on our timeline, so she had some questions. And one of those was, are we having a final send off? Now, let me tell you something here. We are getting pretty close to the one month mark. So, like the good type-A bride I am, there are very few questions I can’t answer. In fact, I’ve got details, ideas, and other minutia coming out of my ears. And yet, this one stumped me. So I asked Mr. Lox… are we?

Let’s pause for a moment to remember some details about our wedding. We are having an afternoon affair that will begin and end in broad daylight. So sparkler send-offs are right out. Also, our venue has outlawed anything with glitter or confetti. Basically, the only thing we’re allowed to throw around are real flower petals. That was never an option for us since it gets kind of pricey and we are still on a budget.

Okay, back to the story at hand. Now, early in our wedding planning I found the hive. And you guys taught me about little flags and ribbon wands.

I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Here’s to Hoping

April 8th, 2011 @ 4:42 pm by Mrs. Ostrich

4-6 weeks.

After breathlessly pleading with the Honolulu post office to reroute our wedding boxes, they said “Of course!” (they really are the nicest people ever), typed in our gabillion tracking numbers in their system, made a confused scrunchy face and said:

“You mailed your boxes parcel post??? That can take up to 4-6 weeks. According to our system, your boxes are still in San Francisco.”

UMMMMM. WHAAAAAAAAAAT?

Due to the rising fuel costs, our Parcel Post shipped boxes (the slowest, cheapest shipping option in the land) would take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to arrive to Hawaii…not 2-3 weeks as promised by my shipping dude. If the shipping container filled up quick = 4 weeks. If it didn’t fill up quick = 6 weeks.

And our boxes were…after almost 2 weeks…still in my city?!?!?!

I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Welcome to you all as we gather to share in the marriage of Miss E and Mr E.

Once we were all ready up front, my uncle smoothly went straight into the ceremony. It was a hot, hot, hot day. I hadn’t intended to hold my parasol during the ceremony, but in the end, when I wasn’t holding my reading or my vows, I was very grateful to use it to protect my pasty white shoulders! The bridesmaids found them essential, too.
