Mrs. Bacon, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client Services Engagement Date: June 17, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Ravenswood Billboard Factory About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.

Topless Baked Goods

May 1st, 2011 @ 6:05 pm by Mrs. Bacon

David Tutera hates cake toppers. I’m pretty sure he calls them tacky in every episode. I love watching him transform weddings, but really, how can something so itty bitty and adorable be tacky?

C’mon check these out:

Can you tell that I’m not going to follow David Tutera’s advice? I mean, there are so many great ways to create adorable personalized cake toppers out there! So what are we doing? Well, remember when I said the wedding is about us, not just me? The cake topper is an area that I’ve decided to make all about the Baconator. He is a HUGE Star Wars fan, so when I came across little Han Solo and Princess Leia inspired dolls, I knew that I wanted to include them. The goal was to surprise him with the little dolls on the big day, but man, he can be a NAG. After an evening of badgering, I finally gave in and let him know that his favorite movie will be taking center stage on our cake.

Are you going to have a cake topper? Would you go the movie character route?

Star House did mine. I’m recommending them every chance I can. Planning the topper was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning.

I made ours- but my mom says it looks too “homemade” to sit on the cake (too big too, whoops) but it’ll be plopped in front of our TARDIS groom’s cake. It’ll be the wrong fandom but right genre (Kaylee and Simon from Firefly because FH wanted something in cannon despite being a perfect captain tight-pants)

Hehehe, I like how you called them topless, and the bride in the fourth photo seriously looks topless.

AHEM, anyways, I love them all, and our topper is seriously the tackiest. But I can’t help it! They’re just so cute!

That’s a cute way to include one of Mr. Bacon’s interests!

Kawaii desu! We’re not going the movie route, but rather the video game route. I fell in love with the two little co-op robots from Portal 2, and how they were holding hands in the concept art for the game. An awesomely talented friend is making them to be our toppers!

I’m actually making my own cake topper inspired by one I found on Etsy. I’ll be using air-dry clay and acrylics, but it seems you could make them out of anything–wood, origami, crochet…you could make them edible too! It seems like a great little opportunity to make something unique, and to use your own talents!

Aw, I love the cake toppers you posted! I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure about them to begin with, but Mr. G really wanted one and I’m really happy with the one we got. Tacky or not, this Gazelle does not care!

I love the cake toppers that you picked! Does anyone else think that David Tutera gets creepier by the day? I think he has bridal envy!

I can honestly say I am not really a fan of these cake toppers. If we have one we will probably have the traditional monogram letter or something along those lines. Something simple, not too flashy. Although something could still jump out at me and change my mind! LOL! Only time will tell.

Those are very cute! I’m guessing he’s against the cheesy plastic ones that you find at party city or the craft stores.. Jury is still out for me on cake toppers. I’m not swayed quite yet. :)
