Ms. Ferris Wheel's Picture
Ms. Ferris Wheel, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Psychologist Engagement Date: May 23 and 28, 2010 (one for each of us!) Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Parc55 Hotel (city lights ceremony, ballroom reception) About Me: Born in the Southeast, educated in the Northeast, and over-educated on the West Coast, I finally earned my city-girl credentials and have put down roots in gorgeous San Francisco. I’m a raging perfectionist with a lightning quick wit and a terrible sense of both time and direction. Our wedding task list is endlessly growing because of my predilection to think that DIY projects I can make = DIY projects I should make (so not true!). I always go to bed wishing there were more hours in the day to enjoy all the things I adore, whether that be hobbies, friends, my career, our two dogs, or Mr. Ferris Wheel. Ours is a story of a non-traditional couple living an oddly traditional life planning a not-so-traditional wedding in this city we adore. Together we are bustin’ out all of our best skills (and some of our worst ones) to plan a laid-back-chic DIY-craftastic love-alicious affair!
About Ms. Ferris Wheel

Perfect Palette

May 2nd, 2011 @ 5:30 pm by Ms. Ferris Wheel

You’ve seen hints of our color scheme in my wedding-party invites, so I thought it was high time for me to put together an honest-to-goodness palette picture because…umm…because I’ve seen other people do it? Oh, stop laughing! You know you’ve succumbed to the “all the other brides are doing it” pressure at some point, too.  Kinda like when I made that inspiration board—which I’ve never really looked at again since the fateful day I spent about six hours working on it. But that’s a post for another time.

Let’s bring it on back around to the point of *this* post. I know you’re waiting with baited breath. (BTW, what does that even mean?! Sounds disgusting.) So without further ado, I give you our perfect palette.

Perfect Palette : wedding color schemes san francisco Palette palette

{Black, white, dove gray, cobalt blue, gray, charcoal gray}

We are really drawn to monochromatic color schemes with bright pops of color. As proof, please witness our bedroom:

The only reason we didn’t go with the black/white/yellow palette for our wedding is because it’s everywhere right now (for good reason, I might add—it’s fabulous!), and I wanted something a bit more unique. I adore me some gray/hot pink and gray/purple combos, but I knew Mr. FW wouldn’t go for those hues. I also love black/gray/red together, but coming from a Georgia Tech family, there’s *no way* I would ever even hint that there’s one iota of Georgia Bulldog in me—so that was out.

Looking around the house Mr. FW and I decorated together, we realized that we almost always gravitate toward cool colors (bedroom notwithstanding), particularly the colors of the sea. We both can’t get enough of the ocean, so our initial thought (oh, about two-and-a-half years ago) was to use green as the accent color. I was down with that at first, but lime green really is Mr. FW’s favoritest color ever, and eventually I realized it felt like I wasn’t reflected enough in the color scheme. So then we turned to cobalt blue, and we never looked back. It’s fresh, it’s bright, it’s different, and it will look great with my eyes. Oh, I kid! (No I don’t.) I kid! At long last, a perfect palette we can stick with!

How many color schemes did you go through before you finally stuck with one?

It’s hard for me to fully appreciate the wedding color palate w/o seeing it decorated out for reals….but your bedroom looks amaaaaazing so I’m sure it will when complete too! I would like your fashion sense…

I was gonna say your palette looks so chic and modern…. but then you went and impugned the honor of my alma mater.

(But I still like your colors anyway.)

I believe it’s “bated breath,” though that’s still not extremely helpful…

I was actually wondering how many people still refer to their inspiration boards, or not. I do not have one, and I’m not sure how helpful it would be - either keep me on track, or, frustrate me as yet another task to do. I think you should do a post on it! :-)

Ooh are you going to use lighter blue colors as well? I’m just full of questions today…

It took me three…it has to be normal to go through more than one right?! I love your gray’s, and the monochromatic feel. It’s so modern!

I don’t have a color scheme because I’m not planning a wedding, but I wanted to comment that yours is really pretty!

Love the color combos, and they looked so good in your previous post! And, I’m totally crushing on your bedroom decor. Where did you get those fabulous nightstands?

Hahaha I love the comment about it matching your eyes — my sister was just in a wedding for a friend who proclaimed the bridesmaid dresses, “Perfect! Because they match my eyes!” She then proceeded to hold the dresses up to her face to show them all…. (she’s just a bit of a goofball, haha)

@kay01: Thanks! Honestly it’s kinda hard for me to picture how it will all come together, too, but here’s hoping, right?!

@teaadntoast: Sorry to offend! :-) No love lost, though, I promise. All the rest of my extended family members are UGA fans, so the Tech contingent is definitely a minority - which is why I have to represent!

@RedRoses2: Ooh, thanks for the correction! I’m such a grammar freak that I’m a little ashamed I didn’t know that. And no, we won’t be using lighter blue colors - just the cobalt, and that be more for pops of color. Great suggestion, too, about the inspiration board. I’ll totally work on a post about that, because goodness knows it wasn’t nearly as useful as I’d initially hoped it would be. :-)

@tocarat: Thanks! That’s what we’re going for, so I hope it turns out that way.

@Julie: Aww, thanks!

@Miss Tartlet: Nightstands were from Pier 1, purchased a couple years ago. I backed the front panels with white fabric to make the carved design stand out more.

@Miss Cotton Candy: Isn’t gray (or grey) the best?! Totally my favorite neutral.

@Miss Candy Apple: Thanks for saying that! I really wanna be modern, edgy, and chic! ;-)

@Miss Canaras: Matching your eyes is important, really! :-)

Here’s the background on “bated breath” just in case you’re curious (I was!) http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-bai1.htm

And I love your bedroom! The nightstands are so cute!
