Mrs. Tartlet's Picture
Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MI Age and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 2, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: The Royal Park Hotel About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!

Gifts for the Groom

May 2nd, 2011 @ 9:44 am by Mrs. Tartlet

I adore buying presents for people, but generally have an incredibly hard time buying gifts for Mr. Tartlet. He’ll probably say the same thing about me, which is why the majority of our “gift” giving typically revolves around grabbing a bite to eat. I’ve had two full years to concoct the ultimate gift package for him, though, and I’m wickedly anticipating his reaction when he sees what’s in store for him. I’ll give you one, evil sneak peek Mr. Tartlet:

I like feeling sexy just as much as the next girl, but the idea of being photographed in my skivvies had me near to a panic attack. As always, though, I could count on our lovely photographer to disperse my worries, let me stay within my comfort zone, and I ended up having a lot of fun! The plan is to give the boudoir album to Mr. Tartlet the night before our wedding over a bottle glass of raspberry dessert wine (a thoughtful and unexpected gift from a woman in my aerobics class whom I’ve dubbed my “gym mom”). Here’s one of my favorites from the shoot:

Mr. Tartlet has been dropping not-so-subtle hints about wanting to break out some cigars later in the evening during the reception. Problem is, I had no idea how to go about getting them. Weddingbee to the rescue! After reading Mrs. Husky’s timely post and recommendation for a store, I purchased a box of Romeo and Julieta Vintage #1 cigars that will be given to Mr. Tartlet the day of our wedding. I also ended up getting him a lighter and cigar cutter, since apparently you need them to actually smoke a cigar (bear with my ignorance; I’m a total cigar nooblet):

And finally (like I said, waaaaaaaaaaay too much time to think about these things), remember how we’re spending some time in Dublin as part of our honeymoon? It turns out one of the big soccer games in Europe (the UEFA Europa League final) is also taking place while we’re in the city. Mr. Tartlet being the dedicated soccer player that he is, I just had to get tickets.

Goaaaaaaaaaaaaal!

We didn’t really discuss exchanging gifts, but Mr. Tartlet is familiar with my habit of pouncing at the opportunity to buy presents for people. Will he get a gift for me? No idea. But, I get to marry the man (on Friday!!!)—and that’s more than enough for me.

How did you and your SO approach gift giving?

Oooooh, soccer at Lansdowne Rd! I used to live just around the corner from there when I was at university. Let me know if you’d like recommendations of good places to go for a pint/dinner nearby before or after the match! You will LOVE Dublin.

Love your pic and cigar idea! So, how do you find a tasteful budoir photographer? I work at a non proifit and I am in the community a lot, the last thing I would want is to have someone local, but I am not sure where to begin on looking! : ) Do you think Kate gave William boudoir pics? : ) that would be awesome!

Those pics are faaaaaaaaabulous!! Love them, T, and I am sure Mr. T will really appreciate them!

Also, can we discuss how JEALOUS I am that you’re going to the UEFA final!? I was trying to convince Mr. CA that we should go to England to catch a Premier League game or two for our honeymoon :)

Thanks for your sweet comments, everyone! :D I’m crazy excited about these!

@Irish_in_Oxford: YES! I would love some recs for a pint/dinner near the stadium. Unfortunately I can’t PM you, but would appreciate any info you’d be willing to share!
@coasterkim: Aww, thanks!
@jenniepumpkin: Haha - if she did, they would have to lock it in a vault to make sure the media didn’t get a glimpse of it. I was already familiar with our photographer’s style, so I knew going into the boudoir shoot that she would take photos that were aligned with my tastes. I’ve noticed that quite a few wedding photographers offer boudoir packages, so perhaps looking at online review sites is a good place to start? I’d definitely ask to see samples of their work, and also talk to previous clients!

@Miss Candy Apple: Mr. T would probably offer me up as a sacrifice to see a Premier League game. ;) I had checked out tickets for the Champions League final but had a serious case of sticker shock. Even more so than when I first went wedding dress shopping!
@YogaGal: Yes, please! Alas, as with Irish_in_Oxford I can’t PM you as guests. Mr. T and I love getting insider info on where to go, and especially on where to eat!
