Mrs. Jam's Picture
Mrs. Jam, Chicago Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Associate Wedding Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural Engineer Engagement Date: December 23, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, IL About Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.
About Mrs. Jam

It’s official: We finally have invited guests!

And most exciting of all: We get mail EVERY SINGLE DAY full of RSVPs! I scream and ignore all other mail (full of junk or bills, so who can really blame me?), scare the pets and run around the house maniacally with hands full of guest confirmations.

Thanks to the man of many titles (AKA the man of honor/best friend/graphic designer/adult ring bearer/party planner extraordinaire), we were able to make and send 100 invitations for about $175, which includes all postage, the perfect paper, sturdy envelopes in the most delightful shade of chartreuse, and—since everything was pretty much DIY—refill inkjet printer cartridges. These suckers use up a lot of ink, you know?

Enough of my blathering about the invitations of our dreams…take a peek for yourself (and be warned, all of these images were scanned from a contraption older than dinosaurs; they look so much stinkin’ better in real life):

Once people open the chartreuse envelope, this is the goodness they’ll find. We banded everything together with some glue dots and vintage ribbon I picked up for mere cents at an estate sale. Envelope labels were super easy and duplicates of the STD labels.

Do you recognize the design? It was also seen on our shower registry cards and was scanned from a vintage tablecloth.

I cannot (CAN. FREAKING. NOT.) express how these RSVP postcards have bettered my life. Not only is the postage cheaper, it requires less disgusting envelope-licking, no annoying envelope-opening, and my address was easily printed right on there alongside a pretty flower. Easy-peasy!

There you have it! Our personal heaven in the form of wedding-related paper goods. We’ve gotten a lot of compliments and definitely stayed within our budget, which can seem quite hard to do in the quest to find the perfect invitations. Trust me. We’ve moaned and groaned over the cost of invites far too many times in the last few months.

And speaking of fancy mail that isn’t junk or bills, I received this gem from the mailman last week:

Our Jammin' Wedding Invites (and a Bit of Sad News) : wedding chicago invitations stationery 601

Our Jammin' Wedding Invites (and a Bit of Sad News) : wedding chicago invitations stationery 71

Hooray! We’re invited to our top-secret themed joint bachelor/bachelorette bash! The theme is going to be a surprise, but the invitation is clearly a ticket…any guesses?

So hive, tell me about your invitations. Did they reflect you and your partner perfectly? Did you save a ton of money? Have postcard RSVPs changed your life, too? And let’s get real…do you joyously scream every single time you get a response in the mail?

*And if you’ve made it to the end of this post, please send warm thoughts/prayers/good juju to Mr. Jam and his whole family, whose vivacious grandma passed away last week after a brave battle with a vicious form of cancer. She was one of our biggest supporters and our wedding definitely won’t be the same without her positive, joyous presence. We truly mean it when we say we are better people for knowing her.

Awww, so sorry about Mr. Jam’s grandmother. :(

The invites are gorgeous!

And, yeah, our invites definitely show our personalities. From our opinion of spending tons on invites (which happens to ‘not doing it’ lol) to our love for movies (it includes a quote from Monty Python’s Holy Grail) and also my artistic side and his creative word side.

Nice invites!

Last noght I saw a picture of my whole nuclear family (sisters, brother, parents) with my dad’s mom and an aunt who is no longer with us, it made me a little sad knowing I would not be able to have them at my wedding and in the wedding pictures.. I know they’ll be there. you’re in my prayers.

I’m sorry for your loss.

I love how your invites turned out. What weight paper did you use for the postcards? I’m wondering what is necessary to make it successfully through the mail.
