Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MI Age and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 2, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: The Royal Park Hotel About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
About Mrs. Tartlet

One of the first deadlines I set for myself when we started planning our wedding was to have everything done by the Tuesday before. And, if it wasn’t done by then—then by golly, it just wasn’t going to happen. Period. It’s been a steady pace to the finish line, but thanks to the help of our amazing friends we made it! All of the little details that we wanted to incorporate to make our guests feel even more special are complete, such as the out-of-town bags:

All The Small Things: Spoiling Our Guests! : wedding favors reception rochester Ootbags OOTbags

I purchased some medium kraft bags from our local Michaels and jazzed them up with the same stamp and ink pad that we used for our wedding programs. We stuffed these babies with the following goodies:

Two bottles of water, a bag of chips, two bags of pretzels, trail mix, a pack of gum (all courtesy of Costco), and a little card inviting guests to our post-wedding brunch Saturday morning (generously hosted by BM Laura and GM Michael):

Laura designed this beautiful card herself, printed, and cut them to size for us to drop in our guests’ bags! BM Tanya and Laura were clutch in getting these finished. They organized an assembly party afternoon where we went shopping and afterward put together the OOT bags as well as bathroom baskets for the reception (huge thanks to BM Tanya for taking the initiative to purchase the majority of these items):

The ladies’ basket is also going to double as part of my emergency kit for the day, and includes:

  • Hairspray
  • Volumizing mousse
  • Disposable emery boards
  • Hand cream
  • Panty liners
  • Tampons
  • Makeup remover/facial cleansing wipes
  • Gum
  • Band-Aids
  • Clear nail polish
  • Dental floss
  • Aleve
  • A Tide Stick
  • Static Guard
  • A hairbrush
  • Bobby pins
  • Hair ties
  • Tums

For the guys we have:

  • Mouthwash and cups
  • Band-Aids
  • Hair gel
  • Gum
  • A hair comb
  • A Tide Stick
  • Aleve
  • Tums
  • A lint roller
  • Axe deodorant spray
  • Hand lotion
  • Static Guard
  • Dental floss

We put a sign on each of the baskets so our guests knew the contents were for them to use and enjoy:

While not a planned project, over the weekend Mr. Tartlet put together a burlap liner with lace ribbon attachments to spruce up the baskets for our programs and cards. They turned out quite lovely, and I’m very fond of them now:

Personal thank you notes have been written to all of our vendors, with a little surprise inside each for them:

And with that—it’s all done. Our bags are packed, we’re ready to go, and I’m taking a day for myself to breathe, relax, and just be me—not the bride-to-be.

Was it a huge weight off your shoulders when you just declared yourself dunzo?

I like the Tuesday deadline, I may have to adopt that. I am trying to get all of my DIY projects and other tasks done as early as possible so I don’t feel rushed and stressed out and can enjoy some family time before the big day!

Cool! Handmade stamps were such a cheap and easy way to personalize things.

Like Snow Cone said, thanks for such a great list of things to put in the bathroom baskets! :)

Okay, so I drooled over your programs, and while I don’t think I can make 150 of those, I love, love, love your stamp, and think it adds such a great touch!

Would you mind sharing how you designed the monogram, or really the stamp in general?

Your details are coming together *AMAZINGLY*!!! :) Oh, and I’m a little jealous of all the help Mr. Tartlet is giving you! He rocks!

Good idea with that whole setting a finish date for yourself. Now I totally wanna do that. It’s amazing all these things you’re churning out under the deadline, and I’m so glad you’re now in break time!

Every time I see your wedding acronym design I think “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” in my head. Great initials.

@Lo: It’s seriously one of the best decisions I made. I just spent all day at the spa, minus an hour where Mr. Tartlet and I were frantically looking for extra contacts for him…that’s a funny story for another day, though. ;)
@Mrs. Taco: It was such a good investment, and we *almost* didn’t use it! I’m so glad we did, though. :)
@Miss Snow Cone: Glad I could help! :D
@Miss Pony: Thanks so much, lady!
@organicgal: Thank you! I’m so excited to see everything in it’s place on Friday. :) I used Adobe Illustrator to make our monogram, which consisted of two fonts: the “H” and “P” are Engravers DT Shaded, and the “W” is a font called Surrey. You could use a program like PowerPoint to create one, too (that’s the program I used before I bought the Adobe Suite). I know that’s a bit general. :( I can definitely make a note for a more detailed tutorial post in the future, but in the meantime please feel free to PM me with specific questions you might have!

@Mrs. Brooch: Thanks, B!
@coasterkim: You’re welcome! I’m so glad this post was of use to you!
@Ms. Ferris Wheel: Me, too. :) It’s a grand feeling!
@Mrs. Elephant: We hope so! With all the signage, hopefully there won’t be any confusion about whether or not they’re “supposed” to help themselves. :)
@Gillian: OMG - best. thing. EVER. I didn’t even think of that, and I’m a huge HP fan!
@Miss Candy Apple: It’s still quite surreal. In 24 h, the rehearsal will be done, and I’ll likely be pacing around our suite trying to will myself to sleep. ;)

Ahhh, I am SOOOO excited for you and Mr. Tartlet!!! Your wedding is HERE. Woohoo :D Cannot wait to hear all about it—I am absolutely hardcore in love with your wedding and all of the thought, detail and hard work you’ve put into it. Also, I may or may not be weirdly obsessed with OOT bags and bathroom baskets. Really. I’ve been making lists of what to include for ages—it’s gross. Yours turned out beautifully, btw :)

@Miss Tartlet: Thank you so much Miss T!! Sounds somewhat simple (at least maybe until I give it a go ;).

And if you mean this Friday, as in tomorrow, I hope your day is more amazing than you could have imagined. Everything I’ve seen, including YOU, is just lovely, and I’m sure everything will be fantabulous!! Best wishes Tartlet!!! :)

I’m impressed with both your deadline to “stop and relax,” AND with those restroom baskets with the poem! That is so great, I might have to steal that wording…

I don’t know how well I’m going to do with a deadline pre-wedding. Yada yada, I have no DIY projects left to do, it’s all logistical CRAP. And unfortunately, logistical crap doesn’t take well to being axed. :(
