Now that the drama that is napkin making is behind me (for the time being), it is time to focus on more important things, like food. This week, we booked our caterer who will bring joy, happiness, and, most importantly, delicious food to our wedding day.
After complaining to a couple of my bridesmaids about the lackluster tasting Mr. Pony and I attended awhile back, BM J suggested I check out Sugar Arts Catering. BM J’s mom had used them with great success at her son’s rehearsal dinner and found them to be reasonably priced. In a matter of hours, I was on my computer stalking Sugar Arts’s website and emailing the owner. Kamra, the owner, was so quick to respond (a definite bonus) that we set up our tasting a mere three days later.
Papa Pony, Mr. Pony, and I all went to Sugar Arts with big appetites and high hopes for a caterer that would meet our budget and our expectations. We left full, satisfied, and with a booked caterer. I love when things work out easily.
We chose early on to have a buffet-style dinner. I know some people feel buffets are less formal, but I was more concerned with giving our guests plenty of options to choose from to make sure no one leaves hungry. (I hate being hungry.) Since I don’t eat beef or pork, I had to rely on the opinions of Papa Pony and Mr. Pony for our meat options, but they consider themselves to be experts on the subject, so I feel our wedding menu is in good hands.
And now, the starting lineup for our wedding cuisine.
Beef au jus:

This has always been one of Papa Pony’s absolute favorite dishes, so it was kind of a no-brainer that we would end up picking it. Both Mr. Pony and Papa Pony couldn’t stop gushing over how tasty it was, so that helped too.
Pulled pork barbecue with rolls:

I really wanted a barbecue dish to incorporate a little Southern culture, so I was secretly hoping Papa Pony and Mr. Pony would like this dish. Luckily for me, it was their favorite pork dish, and my plan is falling into place.
Eggplant parmesan:

We basically chose this so I, and other non-meat-enthusiasts, could have something to eat. It is a good vegetarian alternative that I hope will please all of our guests. And it has cheese…mmmm…cheese.
Scalloped potatoes with cheese:

All of the potato dishes were amazing, but the scalloped potatoes had the perfect blend of spices and cheese that we couldn’t pass up. I kind of wish I had some right now.
Succotash (picked purely because of its name):

Corn and green beans. ‘Nough said.
Biscuits, of course:

After hoping to include a biscuit bar for months, I basically told Kamra that this was a deal breaker for me. Fortunately, Kamra said biscuits could be substituted for rolls at no extra cost! And, she is happy to work with us on any and all of the fixins we can dream up! I am so happy the biscuit bar will be a reality on our wedding day!
Salad:

Served with two dressings and homemade croutons, salad was kind of an afterthought after all the other delicious options we tried at the tasting. But we managed to decide on a basic green salad.
We tried so many awesome dishes at our tasting, we didn’t have room to think about appetizers.
We have plenty of time to decide and taste what our guests will eat during the cocktail hour in the next few months.
