Mrs. Candy Apple, Princeton Junction, NJ/ Seattle, WA Age and Occupation: 26, Project Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Attorney Engagement Date: May 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: St. Joseph's Parish, Seattle Tennis Club About Me: I am a Pacific Northwesterner, born and bred. Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). About Mrs. Candy Apple

As I have mentioned several times, I am not the most calm of individuals, and panic semi-easily. And by semi-easily, I mean I startle like a rabbit when Mr. CA walks into a room. Seriously, my heart sometimes gives a massive jump, and then beats at 129803 beats per second for the next three minutes. I may need to see a doctor about this.

Anyway, this also means that I frequently make impulsive decisions. So, as soon as I discovered the Taryn dress from J. Crew, I panicked a bit because obviously we needed to get the dresses rightthissecond, and immediately emailed my ladies to let them know that I may have found something to wear on the big day. Just to jog your memory a bit, I was crushing on this dress:

The Maids and their Dresses: Part III : wedding bridesmaid dress seattle Taryn taryn

{Silk Chiffon Taryn dress from J. Crew}

Perfect color. Perfect style. I loved it.

And I thought my girls would love it too.

I just knew they would all look amazing in this dress. But, I also wanted my gals to be comfortable—they will be wearing the dress all day, after all, tromping around on grass, standing for an hour at the altar, kneeling in the church, jumping around on the tennis courts, dancing the night away. You know the drill. In light of that, and taking into consideration their various (fab) styles, I figured some of them may want a bit more coverage than the Taryn afforded.

So, when I sent them a long, rambling email regarding the BM dresses I was considering, I told them to check out the following dresses along with the Taryn:

The Maids and their Dresses: Part III : wedding bridesmaid dress seattle Sophia sophia

{Silk Chiffon Sophia dress from J. Crew}

The Maids and their Dresses: Part III : wedding bridesmaid dress seattle Juliet Juliet

{Silk Chiffon Juliet dress from J. Crew}

The Maids and their Dresses: Part III : wedding bridesmaid dress seattle Arabell Arabell

{Silk Chiffon Arabelle dress from J. Crew}

After having visited J. Crew’s website and checking out all of their Silk Chiffon dresses, I realized that I had a slight preference for the Arabelle—I just liked the style, and how it fit on the model. However, while I loved the Taryn and Arabelle dresses, I wanted the ladies to be comfy, and able to show their personalities a bit in the cut of their dress. I also liked the idea of same color, same fabric, different styles. Win-win, I thought!

So with those ideas in mind, I booked an appointment at the U. Village J. Crew while I was in Seattle for our super-packed, crazy weekend of wedding-planning goodness. All of my BMs, aside from BM Braeburn, were able to join in the fun. Just to recap, here’s what we were working with, all in silk chiffon:

The Maids and their Dresses: Part III : wedding bridesmaid dress seattle Dressl dress+l

1. Arabelle dress from J. Crew

2. Juliet dress from J. Crew

3. Sophia dress from J. Crew

4. Taryn dress from J. Crew

Four dresses. Four bridesmaids. Should have been perfect, no? Wonder what happened… (I’m such a tease! Don’t worry guys, I’ll let you know what happened soon, I promise.)

Did you choose any of the J. Crew dresses for your BMs? Which of the above is your fave style?

I would have loved to stick my girls in J. Crew, but I needed to keep them <$100. I love my dresses too though. Swear.

I wore the Sophia dress last July for my sister-in-laws wedding and all of my girls wore J.Crew as well. They were all perfect.

I love your color! these are beautiful dresses, my favorite is the Sophia dress! I am letting my bridesmaids pick any dress style they want at David’s Bridal, I picked the color for them :)

JCrew is amazing. I love how many styles they have in the same fabric and colors. I can’t wait to see the final decision!

I love the crew’s dresses, but I think I’d have a really hard time making sure they carry the color/style/sizes that all my BMs need. I love the Arabelle and Juliet, though!

Did they all pick the same one? I gave my 5 girls 6 options and the first 3 picked the same one, the 4th picked a different one and for the sake of people not thinking she messed up and got the wrong dress I asked the last girl not to get the same as the 3 matching girls. It all worked out well. I wish I could have done JCrew dresses but it was out of the price range for most of the girls so I didn’t

I was just MOH for my SIL’s wedding, and she also had her 6 bridesmaids decide which JCrew dress they wanted to wear. We had 3 Taryns and 3 Arabelles.

In the end, though, the Arabelle was a much more flattering dress than the Taryn. For real.
And I’m pretty sure those stupid interior corsets are made by the devil. If they ended up with a strapless Jcrew dress, let your girls know they can cut them out and the dresses will fit in a completely different way.

I have been obsessed with the Taryn since it came out (just for my own personal collection, not as a bridesmaid dress!) and I keep waiting for it to go on sale cheap enough to justify me buying it! Def my fave athough my friend is using the Arabelle for her wedding and said she thought it was more flattering than the Taryn so…

Hey there! This is exactly what we did. One of my girls is wearing the Sophia, one is wearing the Cyndee (sold out), and the other two are wearing the Leona and the Evie (new styles). One bridesmaid ordered the Juliet and it was extremely unflattering, so she ordered a different style.

All the dresses will be in Newport navy, and they’re gorgeous! My only advice would be to have them order them quickly after you decide . . . they really do become discontinued pretty quickly. Another piece of advice is to order them from a JCrew store vs. online: free shipping! :)

My girls are wearing the Sophia because it was on sale late last year for $59.99!!! I got it in Violet Stone and lavender but in silk tricotine not chiffon. It looks really nice but I’m having them hem it because it came on to calf length with them and I wanted it knee length. So I am partial to the Sophia!!

I would buy Arabelle and wear it out and about. It’s so floaty and pretty! All of J. Crew’s styles are great, though, and with so much variety I hope your girls found some that worked!

My 4 maids are wearing the Juliet in Espresso. We got them a few months ago on sale for around $90 and free shipping. WOOHOO. I have this same dress in green and have worn it to a few showers and weddings before and love it!

Mrs. Trail Mix - I’d highly recommend trying on the Taryn before you buy it. It was much shorter than I expected, gave almost no support in the chest, and was extremely unflattering in the waist line (as in, made my skinny girlfriend look about 4 months pregnant). The arabelle coming down just to the natural waist (instead of an empire waist) made a huge difference in the fit.
