I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

99 Bottles

May 6th, 2011 @ 4:56 pm by Mrs. Ostrich

“It has to be fun. Whimsy and wonder are important. Keeping things light makes it easier for people to look at them.” - Heather Kent

Like many a bride, I, too, have a penchant for pretty bottles. This is my favorite inspiration photo, right up here.

Whimsical, but not too vintagey. And a whimsical wedding? That was what me and Mr. O were all about for our wedding day. :)

And then one day, in my early days of my wedding planning, Gilt had a sale that was too good to pass up— and gave me THE inspiration for our reception table decor:

Vitrocolor Glass.

A Spanish company that breathes new life to recycled glass, Vitrocolor offers an array of bottles in the dreamiest of colors. And Gilt was hosting a sale of these beauties…for up to 60% off! I was instantly ob.sessed with the mauve/lavender color…so I went shopping. :)

Then I found these sweet pale aqua glass jars from Mountain Rose Herbs in different sizes….and at a great price! So I went shopping. Again.

So you’d think by now we’d have enough bottles for our tables, right? Oh, but then Amazon came along with a great deal on Ball’s quilted canning jars. And since I have Prime membership (best. investment. ever as a bride and compulsive shopper gift giver), shipping was free, so I HAD to buy these.

And (you know where this is going) it wouldn’t be a wedding without some awesome Etsy purchase, right? And my first splurge from this super addictive charming site? These pale aqua Atlas mason jars. Who can say no to these???

88 bottles later, our bottle hunting was done. I stashed the packages in our garage storage, because Mr. O would flip the eff out if I revealed just how many bottles I actually procured for our wedded bliss. Then, we had to ship these puppies ALL THE WAY TO HAWAII. Yes, it was uber expensive. And those boxes that were almost lost at sea? 65% of them were these precious bottles of ours. And the thought of them not arriving was beyond devastating. But they arrived!!! And our cocktail, reception, cake and dinner tables were filled with them….and those photos will come at a later post, cross my heart. (Dear Pro Pics, please come sooner than later. I’m too excited to share them with the hive. :) )

Where are my fellow bottle hoarding bees at? Am I the only crazy bride with 88 bottles?? How did you use yours for your wedding day?

Dear Mrs. O,

Please do not post such amazing inspiration pics so close to my wedding. (Although maybe I should thank you for doing it now so I don’t chase bottles all over the interwebs.) ;)

Love,
Loxy

These are so pretty! No wonder you bought so many of them! I think its hard to stop buying even after you have enough and worse if it is a good deal.

I didn’t collect bottles but OMG, I was in love with Mrs. Cupcake’s collection of vases so I did. http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/03/31/wow-thats-a-lot-of-glass/ I live in Brooklyn, wedding in Houston, I’ve collected over 100 cut glass vases and had to transport to Houston. Trust me, it ain’t easy but I’ve done it. WHEW!!! Wedding bee, I’m tellin’ ya ;)

Haha, anytime I order bottles they go directly to my mom’s house so FI is never the wiser. Every time we go home he comments that it seems like there are more than last time, I just shrug. lol

Yay for mason jars!!! Speaking of hoarding, I chose to have different sized mason jars on our tables because my parents owned over 300 for canning. However, my mom decided because they were only 30 years old and not truely vintage, that we HAD to go out and buy all antique ones. So on top of the 300 my mom already has in the basement, we’ve got nearly 150-200 antique ones in the same room…..it’s glass city!!

Can’t wait to see how you used the vitrocolor glasses and the mason jars together!

I am currently hoarding a stash of jars, vases and 90 antique bells in our office. Waffle likes to have things neat and tidy, but he’s just gonna have to suck it up for the next month. :)

I love the look of these bottles, and while it’s become somewhat of a trend, I don’t think people realize how much work goes in to getting them. I was starting to freak out about finding the perfect ones when Mrs. Stripes said “Just use mine!” I loooooove those muave ones, they are so unique and pretty!

Love that first pic! I wanted to bottles initially, but then I got obsessed with flower pots. :)
