Waiting in line at the post to mail a baby-shower gift to a friend, I checked my email and saw a Weddingbee application email. *GASP* Finally! Pengy had mentioned she was a bit behind on the applications and, Debbie Downer that I am, I was impatiently expecting my rejection email. In fact, I kept telling Mr. Funnel Cake, “I just wish the rejection would come already so I can stop wondering about it!”
What can I say? I’m a pessimistic, glass-half-empty kinda gal when I’m not busy smiling and giggling and being unfairly happy. So you can imagine my surprise and utter glee at the realization that I’m actually a bee! Hip hip, hooray! Hip hip, hooray! Hip, hip, HOORAY! (You have to do it three times!)

Thinking this would never come true, I didn’t plan any sort of introduction, but here you all are so I think I owe you something.
Circa 2007 when we first met
I’m a designer and wannabe photographer from Columbus, Ohio, USA. As number four from a family of nine kids (I’m “youngest” of the “oldest” if you will, and yes, we’re Catholic), I am used to craziness. I’m an extroverted introvert, meaning I’m shy at first but will talk your ear off when I get to know you. I like quiet time, but need to be near a city and access noise when necessary. I’m a perfectionist thanks to my mom and slightly obsessive at times. I love art, design, photography, cooking, and learning German, and I’m more than a little obsessed with the internet. It only makes sense to blog our wedding!
Mr. Funnel Cake is Swiss (and Brazilian…it’s a little complicated). He grew up in Switzerland but his mother was raised in Brazil, so Mr. FC speaks Swiss-German, Portuguese, English, and French, and he understands Spanish and Italian just to make me feel even guiltier. We have an inside joke that he is a stereotypical “boring engineer.” His pastimes include skydiving for the Swiss army, firefighting, scuba-diving, sailing on lake Zürich, and riding his motorcycle around the Swiss countryside.
Mr. FC: boring as usual
To make a looong story short, a friend of mine met Mr. FC in a hostel in Greece while I was studying abroad in Zürich in 2007 and gave me his email. Eight months of friendship later, he kissed me at the top of the Eiffel Tower as the sun set, and the rest is history. Together we enjoy hiking, traveling, and exploring the world, with our trusty Canons in hand, of course. (I had to indoctrinate Mr. Funnel Cake before he could think about proposing, ya know?)

Why “Miss Funnel Cake”? Besides being just about the cutest icon (seriously, I want to eat it), there’s only one reason you need to know: I love sweets. Anyone who knows me can tell you this is true! I do live in the land of chocolate, after all. Mmmmm. Funnel cake, anyone? Pass one here. Extra powdered sugar on top, please!
Having already done our civil union here in Zürich, we are planning a traditional Catholic wedding in Columbus at my family’s parish. You can be sure that due to the long-distance planning and fusion of cultures, our wedding planning will be anything but normal.
See you all soon!
