Choosing a Unity Candle

May 7th, 2011 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Crepe

I know that there’s always the traditional option for unity candles. This one is particularly pretty and fancy:

But what fun is that? At this point, Mr. Crepe is saying to me, “Everything you do has to be quirky.” Well, deal with it. I’m sure you knew that’s what you’re signing up for. And this thing is $40, which I guess isn’t a ton of money but if we can save a bit AND be quirky, all the better, right?

I came across this cute little rustic candle holder on Etsy:

We’re not having a super rustic style ceremony but it’s so charming and simple. Plus we could use it on our future mantle right? Points for reusability. And it’s $10.

I also thought these might be cute as a sort of modern styled unity candle by choosing one of these holders for the tapers and then putting the center pillow on a glass plate. Points for simplicity and definitely reusable. The question would be which candle holder to choose?

Finally, I came across this concept—a floating unity candle. We can probably find these locally, maybe even at a dollar store. I wouldn’t purchase it on the website because I’m not crazy about the etched initial on there since it disrupts the whole floating look but I thought this was definitely an idea worth considering.

All three of these ideas are affordable and reusable, simple, and go along with the style of our wedding. Because of that, I’m having a bit of trouble deciding!

What do you think, hive? Should I go with #1, 2, or 3? Help a girl out!

I vote for 3 and you can get a glass etching kit from a craft store.

I like number 1, just put some pretty flowers around it and will look great at the church, and it’s cheaper :)

I like the floating candle. Something about the first one seems kind of silly to me. & the second one candle set (holder closest to the right) somehow reminds me of a butt plug that pure romance sells lol!
I’d go with the third one :]

I really like #3, I’ve never seen a unity candle like it! (which goes with your wonderful quirkiness)

we did the floating candles, but no etching. instead, we put colored rocks in our colors on the bottom. Now, we have them on our mantle with some stones that we used in the ceremony as well so it has special meaning to us as well

OMG! My FI says that to me too - somethin along the lines of me not wanting to do something like everyone else and then him all “why do you always have to be different?” They just don’t get it. “Um scuze me, why do you have to be so traditional??”

#3 is brilliant. I would not have thought about floating candles for the unity candle. I will have to remember this!

Floating candle for the win! And you can totally find a suitable vase at the dollar store. Really. :)
