As the reception began, I noticed the beautiful sunset. Mr. Starfish and I had stepped out on the balcony to chat with guests and enjoy the view. As we were overlooking the ocean, we noticed our photographer, Dave, had written our date in the sand and was taking some photos.

On our “shot list” I had requested a photo with our date or something written in the sand, but we were too busy having fun during our beach photos and I completely forgot. As we were leaving for cocktail hour, Dave reminded me and I told him I thought we got enough pictures so it wasn’t a big deal—I was just super excited to join our guests at the cocktail hour, and I didn’t want to miss anything.
When we saw him on the beach an hour later making sure this shot was taken I was so happy, even though I told him it wasn’t a big deal. He was still making sure to get the shot.
I grabbed Mr. Starfish’s hand and told him I wanted to get a few more shots before sunset. So, we went down the stairs and enjoyed the sunset while walking on the beach and getting a few last photos.
These unexpected photos are some of my favorites of the night. Even though I was in the mindset that I didn’t want to miss a thing, it was so nice to have just a bit of time with Mr. Starfish.
We snuck away and had those few moments to let everything sink in. As we walked back to the reception, everything really had sunk in. This was our day. These people were here for us. We were husband and wife. We were now “we,” and those people upstairs weren’t mine or his, they were ours—our family, our friends.
