Incorporating Loves: Magnets

May 9th, 2011 @ 1:00 pm by Mrs. Pony

Today I am going to share with you my love of magnets. I love magnets for many reasons: they hold up important stuff such as pizza coupons on your fridge, they find treasures like straight pins on the floor, and most importantly they can be (and hopefully always are) fun decoration for your fridge or other magnetic device.

Magnets have fun colors, fun shapes, fun designs, they’re fun in 3-D—they are just plain fun.

But, telling you about my love of magnets is not nearly as awesome as showing you my magnet collection. Yes, I said magnet collection.

My beloveds—magnets with quotes!

The sad thing is, this is not all of my magnets. I have more—I just can’t seem to locate them in the piles of boxes that we are currently living out of. Bummer.

So…what do magnets have to do with weddings, you ask? Oh, I am so glad you asked.

First, and most obviously, there are the ever popular magnet save the dates:

We have received quite a few magnets over the years for friends’ weddings, but this trend never bores me because magnet STDs are so fun and versatile. I can tell you with certainty that magnets are making an appearance on our save the dates (which are almost done—yay!), and I can’t wait to share their awesomeness with you.

Or we could use magnets as, or in conjunction with, place cards:

I have had this photo saved for months knowing that I wanted to do something very similar for our place cards (even though I am pretty sure those are pins, not magnets, but the concept is the same). I am planning to have the table letter be a magnet that holds up our guests’ place cards with their names on them. The best part of this project? If there are table changes at the last minute, you just switch the letters around, no hassle. Easy and less stress for me? Sounds perfect.

And finally, magnet favors!

I found this tutorial awhile back and I instantly loved this idea. I’m not sure people are keen on having a magnet with our mugs on them, so I haven’t fully committed to this project. But it seems to be relatively easy and inexpensive, so I might add it just for fun. And for the love of magnets.

How would you incorporate magnets into your wedding? Would you like a magnet with my face on it? Why or why not?

I think it would be weird to have a magnet with my friends’ faces on it on my fridge. But you could do a magnet favor with an image that is somehow tied in to your wedding theme, flowers, or colors, and I think that would be great.

I have that same office magnet set and I literally just made 20 bubble magnets like that (not with our pictures, just with random cut outs and pictures) and it was SO easy

We looked at doing magnet favors, too. Did you know that you can order those poetry/word magnets in custom sets? That might be a cute alternative to your faces—lots of words about love & marriage, the date, and maybe a cute lil heart logo?

I love the magnet favor idea, and agree that if you could think of some sort of image that isn’t a picture of yourselves other ppl would love them, too!

I think it depends on how close you are to the person if they would want your face on their fridge. Perhaps you could do a few styles so people could choose/trade?

Love the magnet seating chart, brilliant! I think magnet favors could be easily incorporated…I think Rhey has a good idea of having a few styles for people to choose from. With a magnet collection like yours, it’s fitting you have them as a favor!

@Celly: So cool! I wish I knew these existed before, but what a cool idea!
@kelsgurl: Hmm….I got them from Urban Outfitters a few years ago. The don’t seem to be on their website anymore. :(

I’d love a magnet favor!! Way more practical than a lot of other trinkets, for sure.
