Bring On the Bubbly

May 10th, 2011 @ 7:02 pm by Mrs. Sparkler

The other day, while watching a documentary about the history of Champagne (yes, we are nerds… okay, I’M a nerd), I started thinking about the type of bubbly we would serve during the toasts at our reception. After pondering this for a few moments, and realizing that I didn’t really care what kind of Champagne we passed around (Andre, anyone? Perhaps a 2011 Boone’s Farm? Kidding.), I moved on to thinking about the actual order of the toasts and the wonderful people who would be giving them.

In a breaking of tradition, Sparkler Sis will speak first (before the best man).

I am SO excited to hear what she comes up with. Not only is she a phenomenal writer (UNC J-School, what uuuup???), but she’s already begun working on her speech. And I love that. The chance of me NOT crying while she is talks is 0-0.5%. I’m not exaggerating when I say Sister Sparkler is my best friend.

…and in Jimmy Buffett attire.

Following Sparkler Sis’ sure-to-be-epic words, Sparks’ best man will deliver his thoughts. Sparks may be an only child, but Best Man is the closest thing to a brother he has ever had. Their sense of humor is so similar, and they are so close, that I used to joke that I would be a bridesmaid in their wedding one day. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to his speech, and hoping that he won’t embarrass us too badly.

I also thought it would be cute (instead of pouring the usual pre-toast glass of bubbly) to pass out miniature champagne bottles for our guests to enjoy. Naturally, I have not researched this, priced it out, or considered it in any sort of reality… but it’s a thought.

To make the toasts feel extra special, I thought about using old fashioned champagne saucers. I’ve been window shopping for these guys a LOT lately.

Who’s going to be speaking at your reception? Are you doing anything out of the ordinary during your toasts?

Oooh fun - my BMs spoke before Mr. O’s groomspeeps did and it was awesome. :) and mr. O’s big bro was feelin the love and decided to make a toast of his own, which was a sweet end to our toast time.

i was dreaming of passing out sofia minis to everyone but realized that would be too much $$$. sadness. maybe for another party!

I love thinking about our toasts, and simultaneously dread them - I am terrified my dad will say something completely embarrassing :) heh

I would totally serve Boonesfarm at our wedding (love that stuff). I can’t wait to her BIL Pony’s speech which I know will be epic because that man loves to tell stories.

Pop is so expensive! Its amazing, but only if you could afford another $1250+ (for a 100 person wedding)

I had originally priced out pink chapmpagne but then when we mentioned it to everyone, no one wants it! lol

My fiance and I were actually thinking about speaking first, however I’m still a little uncertain about it.

We are planning a speech/toast together, and as we are the ones basically “hosting” the wedding we were thinking about starting out with my hubby to be thanking our guests together, and then doing our little bit together.

However, one though, if you are staggering speeches and toasts throughout the dinner, how do you decide when to serve champagne?

I dunno why I haven’t thought about the speeches much, but I am now going to spend the rest of the evening fantasizing about them!!!

Ooh those purple glasses are so pretty! We’re doing our toasts at the rehearsal dinner, and the MOH and Best Man will speak. Then I think we might let anyone make a toast that wants to.

We had the traditional Best Man and MOH toasts, and my brother also gave a speech on behalf of my parents. :) None of them prepared beforehand what they were going to say, but they were still short, sweet, and full of good humor!
