Favour Time!

May 10th, 2011 @ 11:06 am by Mrs. Funnel Cake

What is today’s topic? Today we are talking about wedding favours!

I’m blessed to have two amazing sisters-in-law, and one of them is sweet enough to have offered to make our wedding favours/table cards!

Sabra is awesome at DIY and, since she is local to Columbus, she is much more capable of doing wonderful handmade projects than I would be from here. Can you imagine trying to DIY favours, church programmes, table signs, etc. and then stuffing them into a suitcase? Mr. Funnel Cake and I will be trying to pack light, as we are planning on backpacking in Hawaii so we can go camping…so no big suitcases for us. Sabra is probably the only one besides my mom who jumped to do such a big favour for us (literally, haha). So I’m really appreciative that she wants to help us plan this non-local (for us) celebration!

Sabra had these adorable creations at her wedding.

They were little Chinese-food boxes sporting the names of guests and which table to sit at. Two in one—I love it! And she painstakingly made them all so neatly…I believe all on her own. My brother was so appreciative of all the little details Sabra attended to at their wedding that he made a speech thanking her for really putting it all together.

Look at her diligently arranging them! Working even on the big day!

Now, we were having Sabra come up with ideas for the place cards when we thought of the idea of having buckeyes as the favours. I mean, our wedding is on an Ohio State University game day. (Thank you, football schedule change!)

First off, I love buckeyes. I love my school, and I love chocolate and peanut butter. We still aren’t sure how many of Mr. Funnel Cake’s Swiss or Brazilian relatives will come, but in an effort to show them something unique about Ohio, Sabra will be making buckeyes for our favours and I am SO excited to taste them!

Buckeyes Sabra made during her test

This past weekend, she got some boxes together and tried out a few styles of packaging. They are all so cute and look like something you would get in a store! She liked doing the box of four the best because it’s easiest to apply the labels, and we like that best as well…so maybe we’ll settle on it! Sabra is so easy to work with—I love seeing samples from her!

Now if I could just have a taste…

Is anyone else having their siblings or friends help out with certain tasks? How did you feel delegating tasks? Did anyone run into issues with their family doing something not to their liking?

I thought about doing buckeyes as a favor as a nod to my DH’s family. Instead, I made some with my sister & a good friend for favors for my shower and put them in boxes that DH helped me make. I thought they were fab!

MIL collected a huge bucket of buckeyes for me and we had them scattered on the tables @ the reception instead of rose petals. And the reception staff arranged some in the shape of a heart for our sweetheart table. It was fun.
