This weekend, Mr. SD and I celebrated our official one year anniversary. Confused? True, our wedding was last September. On May 7, 2010 we trekked down to the local courthouse and tied the knot in a civil service. Let me tell you how incredibly romantic it was. To set the scene, the bride donned black cropped spandex workout pants, Easy Tone tennis shoes, and a t-shirt. The groom dressed to match. The young judge then proceeded to chat about boats for a good 10 minutes, then realized we actually came to get married, so we got down to business. Then his phone rang halfway through. Nice. To keep it classy, we celebrated with a post-marriage brunch at IHOP. Yet I wouldn’t change a thing!
We had decided to celebrate our anniversary on our wedding date over the courthouse date, but since Baby Sandy is due roughly a month prior, we knew that we wouldn’t have much time or energy to do any celebrating. So, for our first year, we did things a little early. On Cinco de Mayo we drove into the Big City (aka Pearland, TX) to eat at Gringo’s Mexican Grill and do a little baby registering at the big Target. Afterwards we honored the paper tradition by buying a few home magazines and a Louis L’Amour novel for the mister. When we got home, I showed the mister my small surprise. I framed our marriage license and an engagement photo to display in our living room.

With all the big hoopla going on a couple days prior to our actual anniversary, the real fun happened this weekend. We totally got the nesting bug. I’m at six and a half months, and the reality of a new baby coming really soon hit us like a freight train.

20 weeks (aka 5 months)
We went shopping at a killer resale shop, and scored an amazing second-hand crib, and a vintage-styled high chair. Then Mr. SD won about six hundred brownie points by spending the weekend decorating the nursery, and even crafting! He said it’s because of how excited he’s getting about being a dad. He made his baby girl her first antler mount. He did it all by himself, using a matched pair of antler sheds from my parents’ ranch, some pink camo fabric from Hobby Lobby, and even broke out the hot glue gun. I am so proud! Here’s his masterpiece.

It was so nice to be able to spend our anniversary accomplishing something together. Nothing says “romance” for me like a good old fashioned DIY!
How did you and your SO celebrate your first wedding anniversary? Did you keep it low-key, or go all out?
