Under the Dress

May 10th, 2011 @ 4:18 pm by Mrs. Funnel Cake

Now after reading a post by Mrs. Rainbow about some wonderful shoes, I’m thinking about what I want to wear on my tootsies day of. She posted these beauties:

My dress is an unaltered Maggie Sottero (aside from the bustling my kind mother just sewed in last weekend!), and the dress fits my 5′9″ frame perfectly. While it’s great and all that I don’t have to make any alterations to the dress…it does mean that I cannot go crazy with some glamorous four-inch heels. I’ve got to stick to one or two inches max, or I’m going to look like I’m on stilts.

Mr. Funnel Cake loves to encourage me to wear sexy high heels, but more often than not, I cannot walk around in those toe crunchers. Very few heels that are four inches high would possibly be comfortable for me…and I want to wear something on my wedding day that I can dance in, walk around in, stand in for hours, etc.

So what’s my problem? All the pretty preeeeetty shoes have sky-high heels!

…must…resist…

I should really stick to something more along the lines of:

These even look too high as well. I was also thinking about red…but going on the sites and narrowing down heels to the low-heel category seriously diminishes the selection!

Then I saw these, which are totally impractical, but I thought they were kinda cool:

Sigh…

Does anybody have any recommendations for online shoe shopping? I would need some place that ships to Switzerland. I could shoe shop here and probably will…but most decent shoes here start around 100 bucks and go up…and I’m not reaaally wanting to spend $300 or more on shoes that I might not want to keep with me when I move somewhere.

I would like to buy shoes that I can reuse and wear again AND get them at a great price.*

*Yes, I want everything and I want it now.

Ughhh…yes, why are all the prettiest of the pretty shoes sky high? And why do no cute low-heals come in red? I feel your pain Funnel Cake, I feel it.

I LOVE the high heels you posted, but I went practical and got the lower heel (3 inches). At my first fitting the 4 inch heels that were “to die for” made my feet numb. Not good.

I heard Me Too shoes are really comfy and I think they have some on zappos. I splurged and got some Hey Lady shoes, but they are totally worth it! Good Luck!

maybe you’ll be better off going shopping where you are. remember shipments are very expensive right now.

I second this post, miss funnel cake! it totally does seem like all of the pretty shoes have 4″ heels. Which I think I could pull off for a mere 10 minutes, maybe. After searching for days, hours, weeks, months, I was finally able to find 2 pairs of shoes that I think will work. One has a 2″ thick heel, and the other is a 1″ wedge. I <3 both! yay! Found one at Nordstrom and one at DSW, not sure if they ship to Switzerland, so sorry if that doesnt really help! PS - Switzerland is THE most beautiful place I have ever been in my life. :)

I’m obviously a little partial to your red ones, as their purple twins are my w-day shoes :)

I’d look into buying some stellar but basic shoes and then find some awesome shoe clips from Etsy to help jazz them up. That way, you can take off the clips and have a great pair of shoes for less dressy occasions, too!

Have you looked into Milk & Honey shoes? You can build your own (including heel height); I just bought a great pair of satin wedges with 2in heels to change into when I can’t stand my 4” ones anymore. Not sure if they ship overseas though.

I looked forever for cute, red, not super high, heels and ended up with some gold badgley mischkas that are like 4″ high. But they’re beautiful. So I am also planning on buying a pair of flip flop wedges for when my feet are screaming at me.

As for places to get shoes though, in my search I discovered endless.com.
They have a huge selection and FREE shipping (and one or two day shipping to boot)! Shipping is free both there and back, so when you need to return shoes you don’t like or don’t fit you don’t have to worry about the cost. Not sure if they ship internationally, but its worth finding out…

I’m a fan of DSW and Endless for affordable shoes. I wanted re-wearable ones too, so I went for color because let’s be honest, when am I EVER going to wear white shoes?

I got my Badgley Mischkas from endless when they were having a kick ass sale…30% off all shoes!

@Miss Biscuit and @lisaelanna have beat me to the punch by recommending Endless , I was also going to say that I’ve had pretty good luck with Zappos.com. If you type in “red flats” for example there are many cute things! Not all are “wedding-y” if that is what you are looking for, but, just search through.

OMG! I have the same pair of low-heel silver shoes you posted! (From Piperlime, but I found mine at Goodwill!)

I must say, they’re not too bad. I put a ball-of-foot insole in them (mostly because they were a little too big at the toes). A gel insole would make them really comfy. :)

@Miss Snow Cone: I thought those shoes looked familiar!

I feel ya, FC. I really wish they made cuter 2-inch heels. For me…I would really prefer to not be taller than my groom on our wedding day!

I too feel your pain in trying to find awesome mid heel shoes, especially in Switzerland where everything is mega expensive and choice is very limited. Are you able to get to Germany easily? You might have more choice there, I am thinking of going over to France to look for shoes as I am so close to the border. The thing with ordering on line is the import duty which can be a stinger, good luck with your hunt.

This is one time being 5’short pays off! ;) I think those red ones are cute! Maybe look for kitten heels, they’re teeny and cute heels, but usually have a little extra sumpinsumpin going on.

Does Amazon.com ship to you? I’ve bought a bunch of shoes from there recently and I’ve been super happy with the selection and how quickly they ship to Canada.

Good luck! I totally waffled around on shoes and after buying three pairs I finally settled on one!

I’m not sure what Zappos’ international shipping prices are, but they’re by far my favorite company for fast (and reliable) shoe shopping!
