Love Notes

May 11th, 2011 @ 9:47 am by Mrs. Ostrich

“To write a good love letter, you ought to begin without knowing what you mean to say, and to finish without knowing what you have written.” - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

If there’s one thing Mr. O and I wanted to avoid, it was the dreaded guest book line/hovering that we’ve experienced in many a past weddings. You know, the ones that look like this:

Love Notes : wedding guestbook hawaii 2756730 2756730

Waiting…waiting….waiting to sign. our. name in that darn wedding guestbook. Aaand, I’m starving. Via thelovingspoonful.net

So, we opted to go with something a little more creative…didn’t require our guests to obsess over the perfect prose…and was a much cuter keepsake we could enjoy.

Bleu de Toi’s Fingerprint Tree.

And here’s a sneak peek at ours, ready—naked—and waiting on our wedding day.

We were happy with our choice to go with a fingerprint tree, but felt like our guests may be left wanting to write a little note somewhere…anywhere…to us.

And then, with a little inspiration from our favorite writing journals, we had the perfect solution:

Love Notes : wedding guestbook hawaii 226102 226102_

We purchased 3 5×8 grey moleskine journals and taped (you heard me! un-fancy tape!) these sweet paper hearts from Paper Source on the front of each. Top these off with hot pink and rose gold writing pens and place them on different areas of the 2 long dinner tables. that way, guests could leisurely scribble their love notes to us as they wait for their Korean BBQ or Clambake dinners…while they inhaled their cupcakes…or during toast time. No lines, no pressure and lots and lots of love. :)

Some of the love notes we were so sweet and special….

And some were straight to the point. And totally hilarious.

Love Notes : wedding guestbook hawaii Loveno01 love+no01

And every single one makes us smile every time we re-read them. It was a last minute DIY decision we’re so glad we did. :)

How are you letting your guests express themselves on your wedding day?

I love thumbprint trees. We had guests write down their favorite memories they shared with us. Now, I just have to figure out what to do with them.

My cousin had the fingerprint tree at her wedding and I thought it was such a lovely piece. Their so pretty and you can hang them in your home afterwards. Plus, I love the simplicity of the Love Notes Journals. What a great solution to not having a long guestbook line.

The love notes book is such a cute idea and probably resulted in so many great words and thoughts from your loved ones!

I stole both Mrs. Hamster and Mrs. Cupcake’s idea. I made some really cute cards ‘Advice’ ‘Wishes’ ‘Predictions’ and also a memo board in our wedding colors. They can write what they want and stick it to the board. I hope we will get some really cute notes from that.

Love your tree and notebook, O! We did something similar with a polaroid guest book, and the messages our guests wrote were also incredibly touching (and humorous in many cases)!
