That’s me doing my best Blue Steel after my wedding makeup trial!

And here’s one where you can get a better idea of what the eyeshadow looks like.
I am not a makeup person. I can barely remember to moisturize before I leave the house (thus, this foundation in this look is a little flaky-looking) let alone anything more than that. So of course I booked myself in for a trial to find someone else to do my makeup on the wedding day.
I didn’t have any inspiration pictures to show her; I didn’t even have an idea of colours I might want! I told her that I rarely wear makeup, so I wanted to look natural but a little better than normal me. The only thing I really had an opinion on was when she asked me what I wanted for lip colour, I said, “that look like I’ve just eaten a whole bunch of raspberries!”
I went to Murale, a cosmetics/skincare store (it’s the place where I got advice about the magic cleanser/moisturizer combo that cleared up my chronic red & bumpy-ness!) because I didn’t want to be tied to one brand, like at makeup counters at The Bay. I wanted my makeup artist to have lots of options! She ended up using a lot of Bobbi Brown products (are they that awesome, or was it just because I was sitting in a chair beside the Bobbi Brown counter?) but a few other things too. When I booked it, the lady at the cash counter said she recommends Smashbox for weddings because it is made for photos. I let the lady actually working on me pick what she wanted to use, because she is the professional, after all.
As for what it looked like? I don’t really know. I was still in bridal paralysis mode, and was having a hard time forming opinions. I never ever wear foundation, so that was a little weird, plus my extra-dry skin made the foundation look flaky—she told me to exfoliate and moisturize a lot between now and the wedding to get rid of that. I love the lips (Benetint, as well as Bobbi Brown Pink Raspberry—how perfect!) and I liked the eyes (a Nars eyeshadow that is mauve/grey and a little bit of grey eyeliner). But… I have a lot of moles on my face which look weird when you rub foundation over them because all of a sudden they are pale and different than normal. Yet, I want to have good-looking skin in the photos, and it really did smooth out under my eyes, my forehead, and on the cheek that doesn’t have all the moles. Maybe we can avoid the mole area, so they don’t get that weird dusty look?
No false eyelashes here, my own lashes already brush against my glasses when they sit up where they should on my nose. She didn’t curl them for the trial but said she would on the day. The mascara is nothing fancy, just basic waterproof. Here’s the thing with that though: mascara tends to make my eyes itchy. I already had itchy dry eyes before I went in for the trial, so I don’t know if the itching I felt after the trial was mascara, or just general dry and dustyness.
Now I wish I’d brought someone with me to the trial, to get another opinion. I’ll still probably book my day-of appointment there, because there is no rule that we have to use what we used last time.
How did your trial go?
