About Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

Really Really Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking : wedding calgary makeup trial 5694103 Makeup04

That’s me doing my best Blue Steel after my wedding makeup trial!

Really Really Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking : wedding calgary makeup trial 5693531 Makeup02

And here’s one where you can get a better idea of what the eyeshadow looks like.

I am not a makeup person. I can barely remember to moisturize before I leave the house (thus, this foundation in this look is a little flaky-looking) let alone anything more than that. So of course I booked myself in for a trial to find someone else to do my makeup on the wedding day.

I didn’t have any inspiration pictures to show her; I didn’t even have an idea of colours I might want! I told her that I rarely wear makeup, so I wanted to look natural but a little better than normal me. The only thing I really had an opinion on was when she asked me what I wanted for lip colour, I said, “that look like I’ve just eaten a whole bunch of raspberries!”

I went to Murale, a cosmetics/skincare store (it’s the place where I got advice about the magic cleanser/moisturizer combo that cleared up my chronic red & bumpy-ness!) because I didn’t want to be tied to one brand, like at makeup counters at The Bay. I wanted my makeup artist to have lots of options! She ended up using a lot of Bobbi Brown products (are they that awesome, or was it just because I was sitting in a chair beside the Bobbi Brown counter?) but a few other things too. When I booked it, the lady at the cash counter said she recommends Smashbox for weddings because it is made for photos. I let the lady actually working on me pick what she wanted to use, because she is the professional, after all.

As for what it looked like? I don’t really know. I was still in bridal paralysis mode, and was having a hard time forming opinions. I never ever wear foundation, so that was a little weird, plus my extra-dry skin made the foundation look flaky—she told me to exfoliate and moisturize a lot between now and the wedding to get rid of that. I love the lips (Benetint, as well as Bobbi Brown Pink Raspberry—how perfect!) and I liked the eyes (a Nars eyeshadow that is mauve/grey and a little bit of grey eyeliner). But… I have a lot of moles on my face which look weird when you rub foundation over them because all of a sudden they are pale and different than normal. Yet, I want to have good-looking skin in the photos, and it really did smooth out under my eyes, my forehead, and on the cheek that doesn’t have all the moles. Maybe we can avoid the mole area, so they don’t get that weird dusty look?

No false eyelashes here, my own lashes already brush against my glasses when they sit up where they should on my nose. She didn’t curl them for the trial but said she would on the day. The mascara is nothing fancy, just basic waterproof. Here’s the thing with that though: mascara tends to make my eyes itchy. I already had itchy dry eyes before I went in for the trial, so I don’t know if the itching I felt after the trial was mascara, or just general dry and dustyness.

Now I wish I’d brought someone with me to the trial, to get another opinion. I’ll still probably book my day-of appointment there, because there is no rule that we have to use what we used last time.

How did your trial go?

Hm.. I know you want to go natural and look like your normal self, but I’d probably go a leeetle darker on the eyeshadow if I were you. I can barely even see it in the close up picture, and can’t see it at all in the first pic. I think it’s lavender-ish?
Just a thought. The lipstick is cute though!

I don’t think your moles look weird or “dusty” at all–they just look like freckles which are usually a lighter color. Your skin looks great! I would add a touch more eyeliner though–what you have doesn’t show up in photo’s. I would also start wearing mascara so your eyes can adjust!

I have the same itchy eye situation you do–ask for hypoallergenic mascara, that does the trick for me! I also use hypoallergenic eyeshadow and eyeliner.

You look gorgeous! And I think your skin looks great! I agree with Courtnee- a little more eyeliner would be better if you want it to stand out more in photos. and practice with the mascara! It’ll make you feel more comfortable on the big day! Try clinique hypoallergenic products- my mom who is allergic to scent uses their stuff and loves it!! No more itching, eyes watering, or hives!

You look beautiful! If the foundation isn’t sitting that well on your skin then maybe there is a different kind that you can use? If you don’t have a lot of blotchiness or uneveness to cover up you could probably go for something a bit more sheer/lightweight that wouldn’t flake?

Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?
Now, apart from our shared geekery…you look great! So pretty! That lipstick is perfect on you!

C-Buns! I love-love the lip color (and I’m envious of your perfect eyelashes, mine are so short and thin *urgh*)

Something I am noticing the more time I spend with the Hive and others is that for some reason, brides never loos more beautiful than they do on their wedding day. Its not just the hair, makeup, the gown, the glam but I think its more the natural glow from within when our hearts are happy. Have you noticed that too?

I guess, yes I will be having a trial appointment of sorts; one of my daughters is a cosmotology student and wants to do everyone’s dos and makeup for the day of.

If your foundation is getting blotchy, it’s not just your skin needing more moisturize, it may be the foundation also. Did she apply moisturizer before she put the foundation on?

Will you be wearing your glasses? As others have said, you need eyeliner whether or not you’re wearing your glasses. It’ll show more in the pic.

Also, it doesn’t look like like you’re wearing a blush. The makeup artist needs to put a little bit more blush to give you some glow and to show in the picture.

Lipstick looks good.

I love the lipstick, great choice. But you need more eyeliner and more definition with the eyeshadow. the way it is on this photos will nos translate well into wedding pics.

I know what you mean on the moles! I have moles in my face as well and when I get my make-up done I always ask the makeup artist to avoid the mole or to clean it with a q.tip when she’s done. however, you don’t seem to need that much fundation anyway!!! you could just use primer. try and see how it looks.
