Invitations: Cost Breakdown

May 12th, 2011 @ 11:45 am by Mrs. Hyena

Now that you’ve seen the invitations, it’s time to break these bad boys down and figure out how much it cost to make them.

Invitations: Cost Breakdown : wedding budget college station invitations Cimg10905 CIMG10905

  • Number of invitations: 93
  • Total printing cost for all inserts: $171.39 from CatPrint
  • Stamps (outer envelope and RSVP card): $97.52
  • Wraparound labels: $15.87 from onlinelabels.com
  • Belly bands: Paper used from previous projects
  • Corner rounder: $4.54
  • Envelopes (includes sample costs): $48.71 from envelopemall.com
  • Total: $240.51, excluding postage
  • Cost per invitation: $2.59, excluding postage
  • Cost per invitation: $3.63, including postage

Was this cheaper than having someone else design them? Or buying a box of invitations? Probably not, on both counts, but I had a lot of fun messing around with various designs and assembling them with care. To me, it was worth the months I put into them. I would not change a single thing.

Are you designing your own invitations? Or have you hired one of the amazing, uber-talented paper vendors out there? Tell me about your paperrrr. :)

We’re working with a graphic designer Mr. High Wire works with for our wedding paper products. She’s doing it as a favor for us for free (SCORE!) and then we are printing them through Vistaprint who has already done our STDs and Thank You cards.

Not bad at all! How much per invite was it to mail these puppies? I could probably figure it out, but math and I do not get along.

I designed and put our invitations together. I printed them at home on paper from http://www.cardsandpockets.com/

They have great prices for people who want to put them together themselves.

Here is what our invites looked like

I also had a lot of fun doing invites for my best friends wedding. I hope to do some more in the future. I love a chance to be creative.

I went your route and designed and assembled my own! It was a tough project, but I wouldn’t change a thing - they turned out exactly as I wanted and I got lots of compliments on them!

I scoured the internet looking for the PERFECT invitation suite (I wanted pocketfolds) and after countless hours realized that every invitation I loved was about $7-8 a piece!! Forgeddaboutit! It was definitely a labor of love, but they turned out exactly as I had pictured and only cost us about $2.75 before postage! SCORE!!

as vtbride2010 said, pocketfolds range from $7 and up and i just couldn’t bring myself to do that. i’m diy and they are coming to be around $4.10 with stamps. Definitely labor intensive and some days i wonder if i should have just done something simple, but at the end of it all they will be my babies :)

YES!!! And I agree with you 120%! My invitations are probably just as expensive as if I had ordered them from say wedding paper divas, but who cares?!?! I created them, from scratch, I designed them, my fiance and I came up with all the wording, we assembled them, and they look EXACTLY the way I wanted them to!! We got our paper from a company called Under the Sun (underthesunstore.com). It’s thick and homemade and awesome. I had a lot a lot a lot of struggles with picking the right paper and all, but finally lucked out. I think ours ended up being about as much as yours too, by my initial research, still cheaper than buying them!

Thanks for the breakdown! My God, my DIY invites were NOT budget friendly. They’re pretty though (as are yours!). I think if any one is wanting to DIY to save money but doesn’t care THAT much about the looks that they should get a paper pack from Michael’s. Attractive and easy. The end.

I’m currently in invite hell though :).

looooove me some envelope mall! even if your invites ended up being more expensive with the DIY route, they look really, really expensive, so I consider it a win for you ;)

@Miss High Wire: Sweet! Free stuff rocks!
@Miss Pony: For the ones in the U.S. (all but three), it was 61 cents to mail.
@LizardB: Ooooh, I love the swirls on the side of yours! And of course, the Star Wars reference!

@vtbride2010: Yay! Glad you could get the price down. Holy moly $8 is a lot for a couple pieces of paper.
@guess26grl: And it’s totally worth it! ;)
@Miss Kid: Oooh, the texture on yours is to die for!

@Miss Biscuit: I agree, I have friends who have gone this route, and still had beautiful invites. I’ll admit I’m a control freak though. Can’t wait to see yours!
@Miss Snow Cone: Thanks. They’re designer. A million dollars apiece. ;) LOL
@Miss Tartlet: Thanks!

I love DIY Invitations! I spent a total of about 50 hours making mine and I love how they came out. I had to fight with my mom on a few details but in the end, Mr and I made the final decision.
Total for 60 invitations was 2.25 INCLUDING 64 cent stamp and the RSVP stamp.

Wish I could upload a picture but technology is being mean to me today and I cant even get it off my camera for some reason. =(
