After designing our magnets, ordering all the necessary materials, and assembling everything together in a kit, our STDs were ready for the Pony wedding guests! And now that everyone has received them in the mail, I am ready to share them with the hive!
Warning: extremely picture-heavy post ahead. (I’m a proud parent—I can’t help it!)
First up, the envelope. I decided to hand address the envelopes, which may not have been the best idea. My writing was perpetually off center and slanted upward (see below). The mistakes drove me crazy, but in the end it got the job done, which is all that matters. Or so I tell myself. Don’t judge me too much:
No, we’re not cool enough to know people with the last name Bing.
On the back was our return-address label, smeared in Photoshop for protection from stalkers (ha).
As our recipients opened the envelope, they could see the tops of our heads peeking out:
Looking back, I wish I would have done envelope liners, but I wanted to save some time and money. I’ll let the invitations have the honor of a proper lining.
After throwing away the envelope and hopefully forgetting about the less-than-perfect addressing, our recipients pulled out our STD kit:
Originally, I wanted to tie our kit together with the bow on the front, but my mom pointed out that the knot in the front might indent the picture while it faced the rigors of the postal service. She suggested we tie them with the twine slanted on the corners, as seen above.
The twine had a difficult time staying up on the sides of the magnet, so we looped one strand through the twine on the back before knotting them. (I don’t think that jumble of words really made sense, but here’s a visual representation of what I’m referring to.)
Twined up in knots!
After removing the twine, our recipients would find a print of one of our lovely engagement pictures taken by our amazing photographer, Jamie Grant:
Behind the picture was the heart and soul of our STD and the part that makes me smile just looking at it, the magnet:
A closeup of the magnet words:
Papa Pony claimed he wouldn’t understand what to do with our STD magnets if he received one in the mail, so Mr. Pony whipped up some instruction cards so our guests wouldn’t get confused:
In case you can’t read it (I need a macro lens), the card says:
How to fully enjoy this save-the-date kit.
Step 1: Carefully untie or cut awesome twine.
Step 2: Punch out and separate magnet words.
Step 3: Place photo behind frame in a prominent position on your refrigerator.
Step 4: Arrange magnet words to form hilarious, informative, and unexpected phrases.
Step 5: Repeat Step 4 as needed.
Please mark your calendars—we hope to see you!
I loved the heart-punch detail on the instruction cards. Three dollars well spent.
And all the pieces put back together again:
And the best part, seeing them in action on the fridge:
I may have squealed a lot when playing with these on our fridge.
So good! (Five hundred bonus points if you get this reference.)
So far our guests have received our STDs with very kind words, and I couldn’t be happier! I really wanted our guests to love our STDs as much as I love them, so I was relieved when we had so many positive comments.
Do you want your guests to love your wedding ideas as much as you love them?
All personal photos. A special thanks to the living-room chair and fridge for modeling our save the dates in style.
