About Mrs. High Wire

DIY Wedding Organizer

May 13th, 2011 @ 4:37 pm by Mrs. High Wire

It only took a few more days of searching to finally find something that worked for me. Here is what I wanted:

Three-ring binder

  • with plastic inserts on either end
  • in an interesting print

Notepad/legal pad

  • preferably not in white/yellow
  • with an interesting print

Dividers

  • with inserts to add receipts
  • in an (you guessed it) interesting print

Yearly planner

  • thin enough to slip in the plastic insert in the back of the binder
  • monthly view (not weekly/daily) with large squares for each day of the month

After searching through six (yes SIX) stores and not finding anything remotely resembling what I wanted, I dragged Mr. High Wire along for one final quest.

Finally we wound up at Office Max. Next door was a Bed Bath & Beyond, so while I looked in Office Max, Mr. High Wire went to next door to see if he could find anything there. (He didn’t.)

I should mention at this point I was feeling officially crazy for spending so much time looking for a BINDER. But whatevs.

Office Max had a lot of options, including lots of different chic/vintage/colorful binders. After poking around going back and forth between the binder aisle, the divider section, and the legal-pad area, I FINALLY put something together that I felt comfortable buying.

Here is the binder:

Yay! Cute print AND plastic inserts to hold the one book I purchased:

I wound up going with regular white dividers, and I’m happy with the decision. I think it would have looked too busy to find some in a print. They don’t have their own inserts attached, so I’ll probably add something to hold small pieces of paper that I can’t hole-punch. I’m going to label the dividers as I go and need a designated section for something.

Then I found a notepad in the same print as the binder. Score!!

Actually, it came attached to a clipboard—so now I have a matching clipboard as well. I’m not sure where this will come in, but maybe someone will need it the day of the wedding…or something.

I didn’t get a 2011 planner, and I’m glad I didn’t because I realized I can very easily just print calendar pages off the internet for free.

Did you use your own binder or a pre-made planner from a store? Did anyone only keep digital copies of their important wedding-related documents?

I made one for my sister when she recently got engaged. I added pens in one of her colors (a peacock green) and spangly post its. I also got the binder in the same green instead of a print and the front had a place to put something to show where you have your print. I got some scrapbook paper and vellum. I printed their names and the wedding date, punched holes and tied them together with ribbon and added a few peacock feathers for effect. She loved it.

I used a plain white binder with inserts like yours, and then put little mementos from the planning process in the front cover to give it some color. It had a fabric flower I had created as a sample for hair pieces and some paper scraps like a belly band from the invites in the wedding theme color. I loved carrying it around. Never used calendars until the last month arrived though, but it sure is a great idea as they would have been pretty helpful to have early on.

@Caizn: That is the SWEETEST, most thoughtful, and most helpful (wedding planning binder? genius!) idea I’ve ever thought for a friend/sister who has just gotten engaged. We love it… she must have been so surprised (and happy). Amazing!

Plus, who doesn’t love pens ;)

That’s such a great idea. I had such a problem finding one myself.

Until I saw Tiffany’s planner and I just couldn’t get it out of my mind. It was/is perfect! I personalized it and placed photos and weding momentos inside with satin photo tabs. Looks cute!
Then got a mini portfolio to hold receipts, cards etc. I put cute post its and tabs in each for emergency notes. Worked like a charm.
I love being organized.
