About Mrs. Sparkler

Don’t worry! Sparks and me are doing just fine. :) But I’ve been wandering the streets of Chicago, bare-handed, for nearly a week now because my body hates me. Or at least my ring finger does.

Right now, my finger is swollen and blown up to about twice it’s normal size, making it impossible to get my ring over it. What happened, you ask? Well, last weekend, The Sparklers were in St. Thomas for and amazing destination wedding. While the festivities and scenery were off-the-charts amazing, the humidity was not my friend. It never has been, really. You see, when I go somewhere super tropical, like St. Thomas, my body starts to get angry at me. Of course it starts with my hair… then my hands… then my feet. You get the picture. Don’t believe it’s that bad? To illustrate, I’m going to use another Friends reference, and just ask: Remember what happened to Monica’s hair when they all went to Barbados?

I Haven’t Worn My E-Ring for an Entire Week : wedding chicago rings 12 1

Yep. That’s a real live picture of me about 2 days into a Punta Cana trip. I can’t believe I just put that online. Eeeek! For comparison, you may recall that my hair normally looks like this:

Anyway, the same thing happened in St. Thomas. My hair wasn’t too bad, but my hands were really swollen from the heat. I didn’t want to leave my ring in our hotel room, so I continued to shove it on and wear it everyday. I usually take a lot of care when removing my ring in such conditions, but one night in St. Thomas (after waaaay too many Carib’s) I got frustrated and claustrophobic. And I ripped that ring right off my hand like it was life or death.

So now my hand is messed up, and I can’t wear the ring that I love so much until it heals. Way to go Sparkler, way to go.

It’s been pretty weird. I keep having little freak-out moments when I realize I don’t have my ring on. I’ve also noticed that guys are a lot more willing to hold the door for me or point me in the right direction when I’m not rocking a left hand ring.

Oh well. While I may have temporarily ruined my finger, Sparks and I did have a great time on our trip :)

Sparks, pondering the magnificent view

Have you ever had to go without your ring because of a finger that wouldn’t cooperate?

Aw, I’ve been without my e-ring for about 2 weeks now, and it causes me to freak out and it’s KILLING ME! Its not due to my finger being swollen, though - Tacori is making my band to fit into my e-ring, so they currently have it and I don’t get it back for another 2 weeks :(

Not a finger … but my jeweller!

I was without my e-ring for 4 months while they were trying to get my wedding ring to match my engagement ring perfectly. 3 botched rings, 800 miles of driving back and forth, and a very grumpy ring-less bride later .. I finally have my engagement ring back!! (and a lovely wedding ring to match!)

I hope the swelling on your finger goes down soon! I don’t think there is anything worse than ‘puffy finger syndrome’!

But I agree whole-heartedly … boys are sure a lot nicer and more polite when I’m not wearing my e-ring!!

I haven’t wore my e-ring for about a week but not becaue of a finger injury. The jeweler has it to make sure my wedding band will sit against it nicely. Our jeweler’s shop is right across the street from were we live and I feel sad that it’s over there prob. sitting in a lonely box. I can’t wait to have it back and to see my wedding band

@HardyPooleParty: So glad I’m not the only one! I guess it’s a small price to pay after a fabulous vacation :)

@peacheslea: Oh my gosh! That is an INSANE hassle! I hope they made your band look perfect after all that!

Oh no. :( I hope your hand heals quickly! I regularly go without my e-ring because I spend all day in latex gloves, and I’m worried (probably necessarily) that it’ll damage my ring. It always feels weird not having it on, though.

while my hair takes the opposite approach and suctions itself to my face, I totally feel you on the hands and feet. just yesterday I had a meltdown because my feet turned into little ovens and ruined my evening. boo, excessively hot body parts.

That sucks about your finger. My skin is pretty sensitive, so sometimes my ring irritates it if it’s rubbing a lot. So, if that happens, I just stick it on my right ring finger :)

I’m a rock climber and I can’t wear my ring when I’m out climbing. It KILLS me not having it on…and with climbing being a mostly male sport, going without my e-ring makes me very vulnerable! I plan on getting a tattoo as soon as possible so that it’s still obvious that I’m ‘taken’ even when I’m sans rings.

My hair does the same thing in the heat - I love summer but hate what it does to my hair - so I feel you. Sorry about the ring situation - get some ice on that baby.

Oh no! I hope your finger improves soon! The odd time I’ve left the house without my e-ring on and as soon as I realize it is missing I feel kinda naked.

Oh definitely! And I feel naked without it! My fingers do sometimes get really swollen, and lately my feet and ankles have been so swollen I can’t fit into my regular shoe size anymore. :( I have cankles! I used to have cute feet, too! If anyone has some suggestions for chronically swollen feet and ankles, please let me know. Back on the subject though, I also have to get my diamond replaced. I’m dreading being without my ring, but I have to hurry up and do it before the wedding! My center diamond chipped and has to go through a ridiculous process to get replaced. I bought a stand-in ring at Target (gotta love CZ! lol) for $20. And, it’s a little bigger than my e-ring so I wear it when my fingers are too fat.

Ditto with the awful hair frizzies and body-swelling effects of heat and humidity. So sorry you can’t wear your ring right now. :-( Hope your fingers gets better fast.

Awwe, hope the finger reduces to its normal size pronto! I’ve yet to have to go without my ring but that time is quickly approaching; my fingers have gotten smaller and the ring needs to be resized. I keep putting it off–I’m afraid of being ringless!

I have to take off my ring before bed– my fingers swell unbelievably when I am sleeping! (Probably a result of sleeping on my hands). I hate taking it off, but so far I’ve always remembered to put it back on. I’ve already had it adjusted twice but I’m not sure if I should get it a little bigger.

I hate to say this- but I think I’m worse off than you are! Not due to swelling- but I’m ALLERGIC to my ring. It’s white gold, and apparently contains a trace amount of nickel, Which I thought white gold didn’t contain, but alas, I was wrong. Ugh. I am having to get my ring reset- in the uber expensive platinum. Which, don’t get me wrong- I love it- but it’s just an unexpected cost for us, and all before the wedding. I did had it rhodium dipped as a temporary fix, but man, the webbing of my finger HATES me right now.
