STDs: Budget Breakdown

May 13th, 2011 @ 10:12 am by Mrs. Pony

Now that you’ve seen the goods, I thought I would break down just how much our beloved STDs cost us. Considering the original plan was to find a super deal on postcards just to get the word out, it was difficult to admit exactly how much we spent on our STDs. But, in the interest of full disclosure, here is the breakdown of our STD costs:

  • 100 picture prints from Winkflash = $4.99 (with coupon for first 50 prints free)
  • 100 magnets from Magnets.com = $137
  • Magnet design = $0 (DIY-ed, baby!)
  • 100 envelopes from Paper-Papers in wild cherry = $23.73
  • Instruction tags = $0 (leftover resume paper)
  • Two lbs. of lime green twine from Country Clean Paper Supplies = $14.17 (I have a massive amount left over.)
  • Postage @ $0.61 per envelope = $41.48 (We hand delivered a few.)
  • TOTAL: $221.37 (yikes!)
  • Price per STD: $2.99 (for 75 STDs)

All prices include shipping and taxes, where applicable.

This price does not include the three dollars I spent on the heart hole punch, the $0.50 on the paper cutter I bought at a garage sale last fall, or the price of the white gel pens (’cause I can’t find the receipt anymore).

As a quick note, Magnets.com was awesome to work with. They were very prompt and helpful answering our questions and delivering our magnets. If you create your own design, they have specific artwork guidelines, which didn’t really make sense to uneducated little me, but they were still willing to work with what we sent them. Alternatively, you can take advantage of their design services for a modest fee if you enjoy coming up with ideas but don’t know how to execute them.*

While three dollars is much more than I ever anticipated spending on our STDs, I am so happy with them that I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Because I can’t help myself from sharing more pictures of our STDs in action, here are some gratuitous shots sent to us by friends:

I LOVE your magnets! Super cute. I cheaped out and did just regular postcards, but I really like what you chose!

Totally worth it :D I honestly thought it would have been more per STD–they look like a million bucks. You did great, Pony…totally love them!

Pony, you have absolutely sold me on this idea. As for the cost, it’s so well worth it, because it’s not simply something that will eventually be tossed in the trash (horrors) nor will it lose its appeal over time. I’m SO doing this. I appreciate your sharing this creativity with the hive.
