We all know the movie: girl misses train, sees what ‘could be’ vs. ‘what is’, yada yada yada.
I’ve been thinking about our upcoming wedding a lot lately (four weeks from today, OMG squee wow) and while I’m superincrediblygiddy about it, I do find myself wondering about the ‘what ifs’ that might have been.
If we’d gotten hitched while still living in London…

We could’ve been married in a tiny church or on the steps of an old British town hall. It would’ve been tiny, just a few witnesses, and we could’ve enjoyed a lunch or a dinner reception and some stunning portraits somewhere in London – the city we called home for three amazing years.
If we’d snuck off to a unique European location…

We could’ve escaped to somewhere secluded and amazing in Europe. Maybe a Swiss ski chalet in winter or a French chateau in the spring, as pictured above. It would’ve been incredibly intimate, full of romance, and a honeymoon all in itself. *swoon*
If we’d followed our instincts and had a mini-destination wedding here…

We could’ve planned a short 2-hour road trip into the Hunter Valley, wine country, and planned a gorgeous, relaxed wedding weekend away. Oodles of food and wine, surrounded by good company in the most gorgeous countryside – sounds heavenly.
If we’d picked a spring or summer wedding date…

We could’ve arranged a wedding in the great outdoors, near one of our beautiful beaches. I envision bright, summery bridesmaid dresses, loads of fresh flowers and a soft, flowing wedding gown – complete with lots of photos taken alongside the water.
Ah, to be able to take pieces of each and incorporate it into your one day… wishful thinking. And while I do sometimes long for a different kind of wedding-day vision, I am more than happy with how ours is going to pan out. It doesn’t matter where you put us, what you put us in, or who is surrounding us: the most important thing is that I have my best friend standing by my side.
