Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

We all know the movie: girl misses train, sees what ‘could be’ vs. ‘what is’, yada yada yada.

I’ve been thinking about our upcoming wedding a lot lately (four weeks from today, OMG squee wow) and while I’m superincrediblygiddy about it, I do find myself wondering about the ‘what ifs’ that might have been.

If we’d gotten hitched while still living in London…

We could’ve been married in a tiny church or on the steps of an old British town hall. It would’ve been tiny, just a few witnesses, and we could’ve enjoyed a lunch or a dinner reception and some stunning portraits somewhere in London – the city we called home for three amazing years.

If we’d snuck off to a unique European location…

We could’ve escaped to somewhere secluded and amazing in Europe. Maybe a Swiss ski chalet in winter or a French chateau in the spring, as pictured above. It would’ve been incredibly intimate, full of romance, and a honeymoon all in itself. *swoon*

If we’d followed our instincts and had a mini-destination wedding here…

We could’ve planned a short 2-hour road trip into the Hunter Valley, wine country, and planned a gorgeous, relaxed wedding weekend away. Oodles of food and wine, surrounded by good company in the most gorgeous countryside – sounds heavenly.

If we’d picked a spring or summer wedding date…

We could’ve arranged a wedding in the great outdoors, near one of our beautiful beaches. I envision bright, summery bridesmaid dresses, loads of fresh flowers and a soft, flowing wedding gown – complete with lots of photos taken alongside the water.

Ah, to be able to take pieces of each and incorporate it into your one day… wishful thinking. And while I do sometimes long for a different kind of wedding-day vision, I am more than happy with how ours is going to pan out. It doesn’t matter where you put us, what you put us in, or who is surrounding us: the most important thing is that I have my best friend standing by my side.

Have you had any ‘sliding door’ wedding moments? Do share them with us!

I hear ya. A year later I still contemplate what could have been.

And that movie is awesome. I just re-watched it for the first time in years.

I have. I often think about if we got married here and had a fun, chic one night wedding at the infamous ACE hotel in Palm Springs, or if we had gone to the happiest place on earth (Disneyland) and the first place we said I love you and had a princess wedding, or if we got married in the art colony of our favorite beach town Laguna, or if we had eloped in Hawaii.

Definitely. I kept on thinking about if we had decided to elope in Bali, or have a small family wedding in California. In the end, though, Im happy it worked out the way it did for us.

Thinking back I can’t help but wonder what it would have been like to have gotten married in Disney World (I have seen some amazing Disney weddings on tv). I’ve had so many amazing family experiences there. I also wonder what it would have been like to get married in Vegas (with all the excitement and lose track of whether it was day or night :)

As I get closer to the wedding I definitely ponder the what ifs, especially anything involving eloping. Your wedding is going to be perfect and it is so soon! YAY!

Absolutely! Our alternative wedding would have been on a beach in St. Thomas (where my Dad grew up)!

I’m with you on the ‘If we had decided to get married in London…’ It was my home for three years too and the place of FI’s birth. I also thought about Australia as that’s where we currently live and where FI’s lived nearly his entire life. Alas, hardly any of my family would have been able to make it. If we’d done my hometown of Chicago, we’d possibly have more guests, but we went with small town Wisconsin.

Oh the “What ifs…” let’s just hope none of them turn into “If Only….” statements! :-) Your wedding is going to be awesome - can’t wait to see pics from it!

I sometimes daydream about our other beach destination wedding in the paralell universe. But I’m hoping instead one of our close friends has one at some point and we can take part in one as a guest :)

@BrianneG: I know people thought it was cheesy, but I liked the flick!!

@Kcoleybear: How could I forget about a Disney wedding? One of my friends is getting hitched in Florida in a week’s time, I’m so excited for her. :)

@Mrs. Earrings: I’m adoring your recaps, it seems absolutely perfect for the two of you. And at least you got to go to Bali for the honeymoon!

@Wedding Stamps: Yes, I hear you!!! I keep trying to nudge my little brother (getting married year after next) into the Vegas thing… he’s not keen, but I think it’d be a GREAT idea!

@Miss Pony: It feels like forever ago that it was me telling people how SOON their weddings are - crazy thinking ours is under a month away now. Eloping sort of sounds fabulous, I have to say! ;)

@Mrs. Seashell: That would’ve been gorgeous! Seashells… a beach wedding… I sense a theme! But, I LOVED your wedding, and I bet you wouldn’t have had it any other way. :)

@Ree723: Thanks, that’s so nice of you to say! I definitely think it’s going to stay ‘what if’ rather than ‘if only’ … I plan on making this day amazing, no matter what!!

@Miss High Wire: I like the way you think! My soon to be BIL and my own little brother are both engaged. Surely one or the other will have one of my alternate universe weddings, right?!

@Miss Tartlet: Daydreaming is for winners!

not necessarily location, but every time I see a hunter green + gold color scheme, I pine for a winter wedding!

@shennan12: Er, great..!

@Miss Snow Cone: Oh, gorgeous. Hunter green was my second choice for bridesmaid dresses but we couldn’t find it in the styles we loved. Lucky the grey is just as beautiful!
