Thirsting for Succulents

May 14th, 2011 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Pony

The lack of vegetation around here lately has me coveting all things green, leafy, and full of petals. One of my favorite plants used abundantly at weddings is the succulent. If you can believe it, I had never heard of succulents before seeing them splashed all over wedding blogs. But once I saw these lush, green plants I was smitten. I love that succulents are low-maintenance plants that are earth-friendly decoration.

Plus they are gorgeous:

This would be perfect with our color scheme.

Plus succulents come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes:

Don’t they make you want to soak up the sun and forget these gray days? Ahhhhhhhh…I can’t wait for summer.

It was love at first sight for me and succulents, so I knew early on in planning our wedding that I was going to incorporate them into our wedding decor.

Despite having little knowledge about succulents, Mr. Pony and I set about growing our own little plants to use for our wedding. Next, I’ll show you our results.

I love these! My soon to be MIL has actually planted these in depressions in rocks! They are actually that low maintenance and need that little soil and water, so you should have a great time growing your own and have great results! If you could find appropriate rocks to place them in, I think that would be an awesome center piece! JMO, but have fun and good luck!

Yay, succulents rock! Glad you’re incorporating them. I had wanted to, but they just didn’t fit with our wedding style. I love that succulent wall.

That would be great! So much of our wedding present money has gone to buying plants. It’s a fun hobby. That bouquet is incredible….don’t know if I’d go for something like that, but so unique!

Yes! we are using the succulents at the top! The green is a perfect color and the deep red tips fit perfectly with a fall foliage colored wedding!

I was only introduced to succulents (love them!) through wedding blogs. So impressed you tackled growing them on your own!

I wasn’t familiar with succulents prior to this post, but they look like they’ll fit right in with your wedding look!

I love, love succulents, and so wanted to use them in our wedding because my grandfather has a massive greenhouse full of them…but, alas, it wasnt to be.

I love love love succulents!!! I have one succulent plant at home that I am trying desperately to keep live. I don’t have much of a green thumb.

My dad has been growing Jade trees since way before my brother and I were born (they are his first children…). They need a lot of sun, so usually go out on the deck in the summer, but they are beautiful and flower every year! Love succulents, and they hold a very special place in my heart :)

I love succulents (those and cacti are pretty much the only plants I can keep alive, since they basically thrive on neglect). I think they’re lovely for weddings.
