About Mrs. Funnel Cake

While I wrote this, Mr. Funnel Cake was at a scouting event planning a bachelor party with some friends. In my efforts to get over a darned head cold, I opted to stay out of the rainy cold weather in March.

I could have picked myself up and gone out of the house that day…but darn it I just wanted to stay at home and baby myself!

So while Mr. Funnel Cake tried to get some more details sorted out for the bachelor party of his friend’s wedding, I was resting. Mr. FC was the best man of the groom, and he was putting together a pretty elaborate (in my eyes) party. Either it’s my personal family view or general American upbringing, but I feel like they go all out for bachelor/ette parties here in Switzerland (and England, I know from some girls at work) compared to back home.

I always thought bachelor parties were something along the lines of partying at bars, an outing with the guys, possibly a stripper, dancing in clubs…you know, all that stereotypical stuff. But in Switzerland they plan who is coming, then you have to pay to attend (upwards of $50 a person so they have some budget), and then locations are organized. People go out all over the town completing tasks, scavenger hunts, many many practical jokes, and hazing pranks. Some of it sounds nice, and some of it sounds downright mean!

To illustrate the point…nudity is a big thing here, it seems. I have walked downtown at night and seen many guys dressed up as women trying to collect money. This seems to be a typical task…raising money. (How Swiss??) But even worse is a guy who was stripped naked and handcuffed inside a tram. His escape key was placed under several dirty porn magazines in the tram…and his task was to convince people to rifle through the porn to get the key for him. Pretty sick, right??

People walking around half naked with their group of men, interacting with the public!

Mr. Funnel Cake was organizing a gift for all the people attending to commemorate the night; he reserved a cabin in the woods for the guys and was working on a PowerPoint quiz show along the lines of Jeopardy. He really put in a lot of effort into this…it’s quite astounding in my eyes! (Hey…we have a wedding to plan, too, Mr. FC!) I really would have assumed that the guys would just opt to go to a bar and call it a night. They seem to make it pretty special over here. My only concern was excessive drinking or pranks. I have heard Mr. Funnel Cake is still supposed to have a bachelor party at some point…and between all the bachelor parties he’ll have to go to for friends this year and his own, I know I’m going to be worried whether he’ll come home safe and sound!

Some gifts, like shirts, can be really cute when the girls are out, but really…what do women do with these after the fact? IMO they seem a bit of a waste, and I personally don’t need this. I’ve got enough clothes as it is!

What’s the craziest, most elaborate thing you’re doing for a bachelor party/bachelorette party/stag do/hen party? Is it important for you to have a party like this with your friends before you get married?

Wow! The Swiss reall go all out hey?

The most elaborate thing I’ve done, was a friend who got married had a pirate themed bachelorette party. Everyone had to dress up like a pirate and the pub we ended up going to was even “pirate themed” that night and everyone in the bar was dressed up as pirates also! haha… It was cute & funny but nothing compaired to what your FI is planning!!!

@.twist.: Ohh, that does sound really cute and fun! Pirates and bars sound like a nice match!

I feel like I could learn some pointers from the Swiss in spicing up bachelorette parties!

Oh thank goodness public nudity is frowned upon in the US! I would be horrified if Mr. H’s friends did that to him!

Ha! I love these stories! Never done anything that wild myself, but this gives me some good ideas for the bachelorettes I’m attending/hosting this year!

Two points for the Swiss!

I think these parties are hilariously planned and sound like tremendous fun!

But, no big parties like that for us. First, we’re older so we are past the bar & club scenes. But second, I wouldn’t want a bachelorette-type party because I don’t like heavy drinking/indulgences like that and I don’t want any other man trying to rub up against me just b/c I have a tiara and a t-shirt that reads “Bride-2-Be”.

That sounds super elaborate! And, the hazing-esque pranks sound like something Mr. Tartlet’s soccer team used to do to initiate new members…I never quite understood it!

MY MOH and one of my BM (a very close cousin of mine) already have the bachelorette party planned, they informed me. I am quite curious to what were going to do, because I am not a drinking and clubbing kind of girl. My brother is planning my FI and since my brother is only 20 I think it will not involve any bars or strippers.
