Our Story: Part VI

Our Story: Part I

Our Story: Part II

Our Story: Part III

Our Story: Part V

As you can probably tell from the other parts of our story, I had sort of fallen in love with Switzerland. It only took one week back in Ohio before I had bought plane tickets to return during spring break. I mean, I had to go back. (And not because of Mr. Funnel Cake!)

I had accidentally lost ALL of my computer data from my time abroad, and I was devastated. The design firm I was working for had pretty deplorable email/phone communication skills, so if I wanted my design files back I knew I would have to physically go there and get them off the server myself. Luckily, I had found an awesome deal on flights, and I scored roundtrip tickets for $530. (They just don’t come that cheap these days!)

So with the friendly help of an honors scholarship I had earned toward my senior thesis, I headed back to Switzerland with the goal of recovering my precious data and “doing research” on public transportation around Zürich for my thesis. Those are pretty legitimate reasons, right??

Mr. Funnel Cake was excited to hear I was planning a trip back in March, and in the meantime he added me on Flickr, Facebook, and MSN, so we started IM-ing occasionally in addition to our emails. When spring break rolled around, Mr. Funnel Cake was already planning on picking me up in his parents’ car for another “date.”

On my first day back, Mr. FC picked me up and drove me to Lucerne where we toured around the city.

From Lucerne, we rode a steam-powered train up to Mt. Rigi.

The Alps were absolutely breathtaking on the way up, but about five minutes after we arrived at the top, clouds rolled in and the view completely disappeared.

By the time we got to the top, we could hardly see anything.

We walked around for a bit at the top, and I asked Mr. Funnel Cake, “You know what we should do now??”

I should kiss you, thought Mr. Funnel Cake. Instead he replied, “What?”

Completely unaware of Mr. FC’s romantic intentions, I blurted out, “We should go take pictures over there!!” pointing to a weird Swiss photo op.

I had Mr. Funnel Cake take a photo of me.

And I took a photo of him.

Mr. FC totally chickened out on his kiss idea, and we proceeded to take these pictures instead so that I could combine the images:

I secretly wanted a photo of us together!

After some coffee at the top of the mountain, he returned me home. The whole day he was flirty and I could tell he liked me, but he wasn’t making any moves. What gives, Mr. FC??

I met him again that week on Good Friday (twice in one week—oh my!) and, to Mr. Funnel Cake’s surprise and amusement, I had arranged for us to colour eggs because I’m cool like that. We hung out for several hours making eggs and eating before we ventured out into the icky cold rain to find a museum still open on Good Friday.

We traipsed around in the rain, huddled very close under my umbrella, and I held in my excitement. I was practically giddy with butterflies. It was like one of those incredibly romantic scenes in the movies where the couple kisses each other for the first time in the pouring rain…except we DIDN’T kiss. Such a letdown.

Apparently, Mr. Funnel Cake thought I was angry at him for some reason. (How is that even possible??) I might have been a little blue about the weather, which was really pretty cold and crappy. So when I told him I should probably go home and pack because I was flying the next day, he hugged me goodbye and we parted ways.

Again, I was leaving Switzerland and we STILL had not kissed. Now, it’s kind of hard to keep flying halfway around the world for dates. Luckily, everything would change the next time we met!

You should write a movie based on your life. I think I speak for the entire hive when I say “I would SO go see that!”

Still no kiss :( This is quite unfair Ms. FC, I want a transatlantic kiss dammit :) Let the U.S and Europe solve all geopolitical shenanigans by a kiss! Your kiss :)

I am so in love with this post. When I made my first trip to Europe a little less than 7 years ago (compliments of my parents for my high school graduation gift), my absolute favorite city was Lucerne. I absolutely loved being in Lucerne. It is my favorite city I have ever traveled to in my 25 years of life and I am so glad you posted these pics. I now am going to go hunt down my photos from that trip.
