About Mrs. Prairie Dog

Hair Trial

May 17th, 2011 @ 11:06 am by Mrs. Prairie Dog

I don’t know about your little corner of the world, but things are muggy as a sauna in the Midwest. This weather is throwing a wrench in my plan to wear my hair down. Too bad that I’m dead set on wearing it down—I don’t look or feel like me any other way.

Also causing problems? My complete inability to articulate what I want. This is pretty much what my hair stylist got: Uh, down. Full…kind of wavy but NOT ringlet-y or tight spiral curls. Loose, natural, but definitely different from my usual look.

Somehow, she got my hair to look amazing. The following pictures are of my hair after a few hours and a VERY humid car ride home in wicked traffic. It fell, to be sure, but you know what? I felt like myself, natural but still a little more formal than usual. If the worst that happens is that all the volume and curls fall? Well, my hair will look like my everyday hair. And I will still whip it back and forth on the dance floor.

Note: makeup trial NOT involved. Do not blame my makeup artist for the way my face looks after a long day at work.

…Okay, I hesitate to show this picture because it’s a really great example of my complete camera awkwardness. I really need to learn how to pose for pictures in the next couple of days. Seriously. All that money for wedding photographer, and I’m about to blow it. Ready for this?

WHAT is this face I’m making? Skepticism? And (cringe) my awkward body language. Like a little kid tugging at her skirt, for lack of knowing what to do with her hands:

Hahaha. Oh wait? Nothing to do with your hands? Put them awkwardly behind your back! NO, SELF, NO. Good thing I’ll be carrying flowers, I guess…

Hair Trial : wedding cincinnati hair trial Hair0102 hair+0102

Oh gosh, y’all. Someone help me.

Anyone else wearing their hair down despite sticky-hot weather? Also, if you have tips for holding curl- PLEASE share. Is there a kind of shampoo I can use to prep my hair? Some sort of treatment? Holla at your girl.

I’m guessing if you have her make the curls tighter and more “ringlet-y” then as they fall they will give you the loose look you want. As the stylist about that.

P.S. I get all awkward in front of the camera too! Should be interesting. haha.

Marakesh oil and Frizz ease. I use the frizz ease before blow drying and then the oil once it’s dry. It tames the fly aways nicely without making it greasy. Good luck!!!

I think your hair looks great! Check your local hair and make-up store and ask if they have a moisture spray /Frizz ease hair spray. John Freida has a moisture Barrier Firm Hold hair spray that I SWEAR by. Love this hair spray! Its actually called FRIZZ-EASE
As far as pictures go….my advice is go through magazines and intentionally look to see what models are doing with their hands. You never notice because your not supposed to notice! They must be doing something right then! wink
Follow their lead.

You look beautiful! I’m right there with you - hair down even though it’s supposed to rain with temps in the 90s … yay humidity …

Aveda has a whole line of shampoo, conditioner, style prep, etc. called BE CURLY if you are looking for something like that. They also have lots of products you put in after showering, before styling, for volume and to help give body and hold style. One is called Phomollient, kind of like a foam you can put in your hair after you shower, that gives body, shine, and helps hold styles, but doesnt make your hair feel sticky or weighed down at all. For something with a little more hold, you might want to try their Confixer, which is kinda like a liquid-ish type gel you put in wet hair before blow drying and styling as well, although I don’t use it so not quite as sure about how “heavy” or sticky it makes your hair. (I love everything I use from them so I would guess it wouldnt do that to your hair but I know for sure the Phomollient does not.) Best of luck! I am hoping to wear my hair down like yours for my wedding in the FL humidity- I feel your pain!!

Dont wash your hair that morning! Your hair will hold best if the last time you wash your hair is the day before. I know it sounds gross but you will have lots of hairspray in so it wont matter. It really does make a difference in terms of hold

I think in pics it’s hard to look relaxed in straight on shots, but if you turn to the side towards someone or look over your shoulder (like the first pic) it looks more natural.

For my hair trial she sprayed every curl with hair spray. At first it was much tighter than I wanted but after a couple of hours it fell to something softer and wavier.
