Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TX Age and Occupation: 23, Marketing Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad Student Engagement Date: January 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Downtown 202 About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!

Are We Married Yet?

May 17th, 2011 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Hyena

The Hyenas are officially licensed to wed!

In the state of Texas, you’re required to get your marriage license within 30 days of actually gettin’ hitched. So a few weeks before W-day, we Hyenas scampered down to the county courthouse to get this to-do scratched off the list. (Well, we scampered, but to the wrong county building. They had to direct us to the real courthouse a few blocks over. Fail.)

Are We Married Yet? : wedding college station legal Marriag Marriag

Anyway, once we got to the right building, the whole process was pretty straightforward. After forking over $72 and swearing up and down we weren’t already married to other people or related to each other (!!!), we got our pretty marriage license! I was surprised; I was expecting it to be some boring-looking legal document, and I’m really glad it’s got a little design flair going on! Huzzah!

Did you get lost on the way to the courthouse, or are we just that ridiculous?

I’m in Texas too - and our marriage license is so tacky looking - in my opinion!!! I would much prefer to have your version!!!! And the online directions of which building to go to sent us to the wrong building as well! I think that’s normal! lol
good luck!!

Ugh, I wanted to get mine done when I was in H-town just this month but oh no, we have to come back 30 days before AND wait 72hours after to get the license. Argghhh!!!

Hollar! Yay for the license. I can’t wait to get ours! I keep thinking we’ll forget about it once we are 30 days out and swamped with wedding to-dos.

I agree - Hyenas certificate is great! I had no idea that it wasn’t the same form used state wide - until I got mine! And, you can go to any county in TX to get it - no matter where you’re married in the state. I should have called around and asked who’s was prettier!!!

@angeljessie54: I was so excited when I found this out! I lived in Ellis County at the time, but was getting married in Dallas County. The DC Courthouse was much more of a pain (people, parking, wait, ect), and so we got ours at the EC Courthouse. We were the only people there.

$72?? Man. That stinks. Ours was $12.

But YAY! Congrats. So close. I’m super excited for you and Mr. H! :D

wow your marriage license is so cute! Ours is…not. Also, we went to the wrong building too. We went to the courthouse, but you actually get marriage licenses at another city building (in the same line you stand in to get all sorts of other permits…)

@JackieDe: Thanks! Wow, I didn’t know it was different prices in different counties, but I knew there was a discount through the “Twogether in Texas” counseling program - did ya’ll do that?
@Mrs. Mary Jane: Maybe it’s the same kind of thing everywhere … but then why on earth would they say “Go to the county courthouse”??
@Miss Snow Cone: Tee hee. Thanks. :)
