Mrs. Balloons's Picture
Mrs. Balloons, Aspen, CO Age and Occupation: 24, Mass Communications graduate, Web Design student, & winery worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Engineer Engagement Date: July 10, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: The Sundeck at The Little Nell About Me: I'm a small-town Midwest girl planning an intimate mountaintop destination wedding complete with a huge DIY at-home reception. As an honors graduate fallen victim to the worst job market in history in my area, we're doing everything we can to still have the wedding of our dreams on a tighter budget. I currently enjoy working at a winery, but I'm lonnng overdue for a day job! I am: a big-time daydreamer, one of the pickiest eaters you'll ever meet, and a lover of pretty paper and awesome fonts. I'm a girly girl who loves to get dolled up, but also a country girl who loves to get muddy and go 4-wheeler riding. I also enjoy singing in the car, boating, going to concerts, the History Channel, carnival food, and going to watch St. Louis Cardinals baseball with my handsome engineer.
About Mrs. Balloons

Now that you’ve seen my dress rejects, I’d like to introduce you to the one that made it through to the end…The WINNER. I tried on so many dresses that I just liked, I was starting to wonder whether I was going to get that feeling that you’re supposed to get when you try on the dress that is THE ONE. Oh, yes. It did end up happening when I tried on this beauty…

The Most Important Dress of My Life : wedding aspen wedding dress Balloon1

It’s the Bonny Essence Style 8008.

The Most Important Dress of My Life : wedding aspen wedding dress Pleaseshowup pleaseshowup!

It didn’t come with the sash, but I added it to make it more “me.”

The Most Important Dress of My Life : wedding aspen wedding dress Showup showup!

This isn’t the same sash as in the other pics…my actual sash has not come in yet.

This last picture is when my actual dress came in and I went to try it on. It definitely needs taking in quite a bit around the hips and butt, so I’m currently in the process of finding an awesome seamstress. I’m going to have to figure out a way to make those ruffles lay pretty and not look all crazy as if the dress just got pulled out of a bag, like in this pic. Also, I’m trying to decide whether I should have the sash sewn into the dress and not have it in a bow in the back…or if I should have it in a bow but shorten the length significantly. Thoughts?

I personally like the bow, but I am totally a bow person. But, I also think that not having it sewn in would allow for the fun option of swapping in a different sash for your reception - maybe something in a color or even something more fashion forward.

P.S. - LOVE the dress!!

I’m totally a bow person, but I don’t think it goes well with the ruffels in the back. I’d have it sewn into the dress given the style you’ve chosen.

Beautiful! You could also have little snaps sewn in on the back to make it look like it’s sewn into the dress, but still be able to remove it.

Sorry… What I meant was …something more fashion forward than you may want for your ceremony. I totally think your dress/sash is fashionable as is!

You look great! I’d have the sash made so that it fits perfectly around your waist with no bow in the back, with a clasp or something like that, so it is still removable.

Lovely dress! And I agree with Susan. With all the awesome foufery (technical term), a bow might be too much.

I looooove the bottom of your dress, every dress I was drawn to had something interesting on the bottom!

1. Gorgeous.
2. Sew in the sash (or snaps, like PPs suggested!). I like bows and I like long, trailing sashes, but you have enough volume and interest in the back with the ruffles.

I vote having the sash sewn into the back; the box kindof competes with the ruffles and your hair the day-of. :) Pretty!

That dress looks awesome on you! I think you should have the belt attached. I think with the big ruffles at the bottom, adding a bow to the back would make it all a bit busy and disturb that lovely silhouette. Just my two cents!

Your dress looks so great on you! I have to agree that sewing the sash would look best given all you’ve got going on on the back of the dress.

I really like the long dramatic bow, but I’m totally a bow person. :) Are you wearing a veil? How long will it be? I’d say shorten the bow if you have like, a cathedral length veil or something though, since you don’t want it to compete.

Oh my goodness!! I LOVE your dress. And I LOVE that you are adding the sash. I am going to be adding a sash to my dress also and REALLY want it sewn into the dress. I do not like the look of a ribbon tied into a bow. I think it is more elegant and class if it looks like part of the dress. That being said, any sash done any way will look AMAZING. Can’t wait to see what you decide to do!!

LOVE THE DRESS!!!! Perhaps try leaving it out of the bag and steaming/having it steamed. I am having the same problem with my dress and I will be transporting the dress from Texas to Virginia and getting married the following day… so hopefully the suggestion I just gave you will work!
