Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

As you may have read, I’m worried our wedding will become a lukewarm mess, with semi-interesting aspects that come together to leave our guests feeling meh.

I fear our ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and yes, even the details, will leave our guests almost cold. Or they’ll think it’s too busy, too crowded with a plethora of details and a spectrum of flair. Too cramped with poms and chalkboards, buttons and bunting, pumpkins and brownies. Is that possible?

Mostly, I am concerned about disappointing myself. I’ll be so pissed if all this time and effort and energy results in a lackluster look. Like, seriously pissed. I might never plan a wedding again if that happens.

Here’s the latest inspiration boards I have developed…

The ceremony…

The bridesmaids…

Add in some bunting, some vintage furniture, cake and s’mores and brownies, some colorful soda and some stripey straws and maybe some yard games and a petting zoo…OK, OK, I’m kidding about the petting zoo. But add in all those other things, and maybe subtract the pumpkins, and what do you think?

Is it hot or is it not?*

Line from a song in one of my fave ’80s movies…anyone?

I feel the exact same way! If this doesn’t turn out how I envision I’ll be so upset. As I’ve mentioned this to other people I always get the same response.
1. Guests will remember how much fun they had–not so much the details so don’t stress about them too much
2. Guest will remember how much the bride and groom smile and if they can “feel the love”

Great post! I can totally relate!!

I really love your inspiration boards above – super colorful and fun!! Just because you want to use lots of details doesn’t mean it is going to be confusing or a “lukewarm mess”! I think all the different aspects have been tied in by color and that makes it work well!

Trust me, when that day happens, you’ll be amazed at how good it all looks and how well things came together. I was thinking the same thing you were about how it would just look messy or not all put together and everything just happens to work out – even if someone put it out not quite how you envisioned. It will be awesome – and if a few things are missing or not quite right, you won’t care that day :-)

…..Bueller?? Bueller?? ;)

I think the tree/pumpkin/bright pink vibe is lovely, Miss M. Seriously! And your centerpieces with all their milk glass glory will be fab. Don’t over think it – just pick stuff you love and it’ll all come together. Promise. :)

I agree with Ostrich. I’m also just going ahead and planning on everything not being 100% perfect or look exactly like what my vision is, and being okay with it. It will all work out exactly like it is supposed to!

I’m sure it will all come together in the end…but if I’m perfectly honest, I think it’s a lot. But that’s just my opinion – my taste is more simple and classic, and I don’t tend to like stuff that’s too trendy. So if you love everything you’ve chosen, go with it and I’m sure it will be great!

You trippin’, M! You’re going to have S’MORES…c’mon. I don’t think it gets much better than that. Seriously. I’m not just blowing smoke up your booty…your wedding is going to be awesome.

Are ya kiddin’ me? Your day is going to be awesome. All you have to worry about is whether you and Mr. Magic have the time of your lives. Everything.else is out of your control.

I think that all your details will work out fabulously. I know how you feel about worrying how your guests will enjoy your wedding. I have nightmares that I show up on my wedding day and hate it. But my mom always reminds me that the majority of the guests at our wedding will not have spent the last four years scouring wedding blogs like I have. So basically, the guests won’t have anything to compare your wedding to. That being said, your wedding will most likely be fabulous so try to enjoy this time!

I think you have an eclectic mix of ides that will create a chic enviroment. I think the ideas, although in wedding blog land may be plentiful, will feel fresh and fun to your guests. On a side note are you planning on marrying someone else other than Mr. Magic, that you would need to plan a second wedding for? Just wondering, because you said if this one doesn’t work out you won’t plan another.
