Remember back before the wedding when I was whining about how I hated the standard family photo pose? The ones where everyone stands shoulder to shoulder and it looks like a mug shot?
I said we were not going to do anything like this. None. Zero. I put my bridal foot down. We were only going to do fun poses. Yea…well it didn’t really happen like that because our moms wanted those photos. And I am a big enough person to admit that I am very happy that they got their way.
When our photographer, Sol, added her own artistic flair to the “standard” family photos they turned out to be some of the ones I love the most. For example this one of Mr. Meerkat and Sister-In-Law Meerkat:

These photos show so much love and happiness, how could I have thought I didn’t want them?
Plus I got one of my most treasured photos ever. It is of my sister and my niece, Bridesmaid K:
These two ladies are so important to me and until now I didn’t really have a good photo of them together.
At the time we were taking them, I had no idea how much I would love these photos so of course I kept saying to poor Sol, “I want fun ones.” *sigh* I didn’t realize how vague that sounded until now but she never once grimaced. Instead she would give me a laugh and a smile and come up with AWESOME ideas.
One of my favorites has to be this one of Sister Meerkat and me:
And of course I love the “bridal party” photos of us girls out in the water:
The water was just a bit chilly but still fun.
Oh yea, I was having a blast. 
The guys chose to go a less wet route and stayed up on the sand for their photos.
Now for some Meerkat words of wisdom about “mugshots” at your wedding—do them. You will be so happy you have photos of the people you love together.

Bah - I was hoping you were goin gto end this post with “I’m glad I didnt get the mug shots” I totally hate those too, but yours turned out really well and they do feel less staged than traditional ones - maybe we’ll try something to this effect as well…
@jessica.dirr: HAHA I never thought I would post something that said that either. The big key is to keep those photos to 10-15 minutes tops. And not to do too many combinations.
