Guess what, hive? The Sloths got MARRIED, y’all!
I don’t want to post about the wedding until I have some photos to show you, but our wedding was awesome. It totally exceeded all of our expectations and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
But until the pics are ready, I’ll just give you all a recap of our super-ultra-mini-honeymoon in Ithaca.
We left at around noon and drove the four hours to upstate New York. The weather was dismal—cold and rainy—and the forecast indicated that it wasn’t going to get any better, but we didn’t really care. We just wanted to relax, and we only had about 48 hours to do it.
We arrived at the City Lights Bed and Breakfast and checked in. You guys, this place was so adorable! They upgraded us for free to an amazing suite, which was just perfect, like a quaint little apartment.
We chilled out for a while in front of the fireplace and then went out for some grub. On the drive up, Mr. S had said that he was craving Mexican, and that sounded perfect to me too, so we jumped onto Yelp and found Viva Taqueria.
After filling our bellies with queso fundido, chips and salsa, tacos and margaritas, we went back to the City Lights and played cards for a while until we fell asleep (early. We were exhausted.).
On Monday morning, we woke up and had breakfast in the kitchen with the two other guests. Oh em gee, this breakfast was so. effing. good. An herb cheese omelet, fresh fruit with granola and honey cinnamon yogurt, fresh coffee and OJ. Drooooooool.
We checked the weather and it looked like we’d have a few hours of semi-dry weather, with no more than a misting rain, so we decided to check out some of the gorges that Ithaca is so famous for. We drove to Taughannock Falls, the tallest waterfall east of the Rockies (even higher than Niagara!) and took a quick and easy hike.
And then we got to the biggie…
After seeing the falls, we went back to the car and drove around. We got to see the falls from the scenic overlook, waaaaaaaaaaaay up high on a cliff.
Look closely. See the bridge that spans the water? That’s where we were standing in the above photos. It looks so teeny tiny from up there.
Some funky iPhone pics:
After our outdoor adventure, it started to rain in earnest and we did the indoor portion of our activities, aka wine tasting. We hit up the Six Mile Creek Vineyard:
And then Americana, Goose Watch, and the Sheldrake (our favorite). We also hit up the Bellwether Cidery, where in addition to tasting yummy hard cider, we made out with the owner’s pitbull, Sugie.
After all that booze, I needed a nap. We crashed for a couple of hours in our suite, and then had an incredible dinner at Hazelnut Kitchen.
After dinner, we went to bed fairly early again (still exhausted) and then woke up to this delectable en suite breakfast:
We chowed down and then got in the car to leave.
And that was it. Our two-day minimoon was over in what felt like seconds, but we returned to Philly well-rested and happy. And we still have our full-length Alaska honeymoon in August to look forward to!
