Veil Gets In Your Eyes

May 18th, 2011 @ 10:40 am by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

Veil Gets In Your Eyes : wedding calgary veil 5172565 Cinnamon-Buns-No-Lookie

Go play some League of Legends, please dear?

Ok, now that he’s gone, we can talk about…

that veil that 100% of you said I should buy! I bought it! It arrived! I can’t figure out how to wear it!

It’s a little wrinkly from being in the box, so it will need a bit of a steam (or something) to get some creases out, but it is lovely! I ordered the ivory colour, as my dress is ivory, and it is just right. I was worried it might look a little too yellow or dirty, but all fears disappeared as soon as I opened the box. The model in the listing is wearing it at a jaunty angle over one side of her face:

Veil by TessaKim on Etsy (11″ double-layered veil)

So I tried that:

Not bad, right? (Minus the cluttered fridge in the background) It’s off to one side, with the comb stuck in about where I usually wear my hair in a bun.

I figured I should try it a few different ways, so I stuck the comb in the centre of my head, far enough forward so the veil would come down to my chin:

Funny face because I’m having scary flashbacks of playing goalie on the junior field hockey team. Nuh-uh. At least I realised that closing the bathroom door would hide the fridge.

Maybe I should go back to a jaunty angle…

Too jaunty, now I just feel drunk. I think I’ll stick with a mildly-jaunty angle, like in the first picture of me. Weird thing to note: putting it on that angle felt very natural. I tried to put it on on the other angle, and it was like you’d asked me to play the piano with my toes. It just felt so wrong to have it over the right side of my face (yes, I did get that correct, I was taking pictures in the mirror!). Do you think it is a right-handed thing?

The reason I wasn’t originally looking for a veil was because I thought that veil + glasses would be a little bit much going on on my face. Why did I then buy a TWO-layer veil, with two different fabrics (fine tulle and Russian veiling)? I fell in love with it and thought I’d be able to make it work, in the immortal words of Tim Gunn.

Something to note… it’s hard to see through! Even harder to type through, so hopefully there aren’t too many typos in this post. ;) I’m just glad I won’t be wearing it for too long on the wedding day! We’re going to do a first look, and I’ve been planning on being veil-less for that, because it is hours before our ceremony. I’ll put it on for the ceremony, which will also make the look a wee bit of a surprise for Cinnamon Buns.

Any other suggestions on how to wear it? And tell me true…glasses +2 layers of veil = too much or awesome? Keep in mind that these pics of me are in my normal state—no makeup at all.

I love the veil and think it’s going to be great with the glasses! Try moving the comb farther back on your head so it comes up and over and just swoops down one side of your forehead a bit. This will help with the sight issue and give you the “look” you want. I ordered one too and that’s what I needed to do to get it to work.

i always, i mean ALWAYS wear my glasses, but i have opted for contacts for the wedding; only because i figured
#1 the glasses become an accessory, and i frear my green & purple specs wont match
#2 my glasses mask my eyes and when i wear make-up you cant really tell
#3 its easier to cry when not having to lift the frames to wipe away tears
#4 im doing a teardrop angle veil, my hair will be long bangs sweeped to the side… my glasses will most deffinetly get in my way

Awesome with the glasses! This makes me confident that I can get a similar veil and still be able to wear my glasses which are so me, I would feel lost without them.

I love the two-layer look. So pretty!

And my FI is addicted to League of Legends too… we should start a support group or something!

Personally, the two layer veil, though nice, is a bit much with glasses which already create a layer over your face.

If you decide to wear it, I would wear it at an angle and consider cutting it/ tailoring it to highlight your bone structure.

I love the veil….not so much with the glasses though. I wear glasses too and I will be going without on the day of. I think you’re right, it’s just too much going on.

I thought I’d sport a birdcage veil myself, but I couldn’t figure out how to wear it and lost interest.

I like the last picture of you the best.

Oh gosh, not League of Legends (LoL)… I’ll join that support group.

I also like the first one with the mildly jaunty look!

that veil is lovely, mildly jaunty is the way to go :) I love a girl in glasses, but honestly I’d go without them with the veil, the solidness of the frames is too much of a contrast with the soft airyness of the veil, IMO

Miss C-Buns you are just too cute!

I’m serious, I think its adorable the way you have been sharing your decision-making with us as your planning progresses (and you remind me a bit of my favorite sister-in-law-2b!!) and I am absolutely in love-love with these little bird cage veils, although I don’t think I could sport one. You are going to be a stunning bride soon!
