Mrs. Cotton Candy, Riverside, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Field Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Process Server Engagement Date: July 5, 2007 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Riverside Art Museum About Me: I’m a girl in love with her best friend planning a small mid-century modern inspired wedding that’s been a long time coming. I love all things design, sewing, flea markets, and a good book. I’ve been known to swoon over a well-designed chair and often find myself craving a new addition to my chair collection regardless of the lack square footage in our home. I’m Mexican American girl who hates all things spicy but loves her rowdy Mexican family and her Latin roots. My wedding muses may not be your typical wedding superstars, but with a lot of DIY, a dash of offbeat style, and lots of love and laughs, Mr. Cotton and I plan to create a day that is unmistakably us.

Alternative title: How the Wrong Linens Cost Miss Cotton Candy 500 Bucks and Her Sanity

Yesterday I received what I’d describe as a barf-inducing call from our coordinator regarding our linens. I’m not sure what spurred our coordinator to reach out to our rental company to confirm the dimensions of our linens—maybe some sort of wedding coordinator sixth sense—but I’m thankful that she did, because  the linens we reserved are too short for our tables. This isn’t the end of the world, but this isn’t really what I had in mind when I envisioned our tables:

The simple fix would be to reserve new floor-length linens from our rental company and call it a day.

Unfortunately for us, our rental company doesn’t carry linens long enough to reach the floor, which means in order to achieve our vision of long reception tables, we have go through a different rental company and shell out an extra 500 bucks, an outrageously large amount that makes my heart hurt.

Linens were supposed to be such a small portion of our budget, so to have the cost almost triple on top of increasing catering, a ginormous must-buy list, and a pile of unfinished DIY, and my anxiety hit a boiling point.

I’m ashamed to say I broke and spent my whole drive home (an hour-and-a-half to be exact) in tears, trying to decide whether I could come to terms with less-than-perfect linens or stomach spending the extra money on the correct ones. Once I got home, I continued my tear-induced madness and buried myself under a pile of blankets for a full blown pity party for one.

Mr CC, being a lover of tough love marched into our room and told me I needed to face my problems. He was giving me one  hour to cry it out, after which he expected me up and out of bed and in the living room ready to crunch the numbers to see were we could find the extra money for all our added expenses.

Thanks to Mr CC’s kick in the pants, we were able to shuffle around our budget to afford all the extra expenses that are getting thrown our way and got together a game plan to tackle our DIY mountain. I’m still a little anxious about our ever growing to do list, but I trust Mr CC to keep me on track the next 30+ days and I’m crossing my fingers that we’ve seen the end of the unexpected expenses, even though I have a feeling we haven’t!

Have you had a bridal meltdown? How do you handle unexpected budget curve balls?

Aww, that sucks CC. Glad you got the numbers crunched, your coordinator called, and you have a great partner in Mr CC :)

Absolutely! And I needed to take a moment to just breathe. At the heart of it, I just had to remember that it will all settle and I will be married. :-)

Have you thought about buying and reselling, it can cost about the same.

Just think about how you would’ve felt if you had found this out on the day of your wedding…. at least you and the mister have time to think and plan about it now!!

I’m glad you were able to work with your budget to cover the unexpected costs. There seemed to be a lot of little things towards that end, and they all start to add up.

Heh. Yes. I’ve melted down every day in the last three weeks. But at least I’m in the home stretch! You’ll be okay. :)

Oh no! I’m glad your coordinator called ahead, and that you were able to make it work. This would have sent me into a panic, too.

Definitely had a few mini-meltdowns myself. As time ticks away and details need to be finished it can get overwhelming.

Is it possible that the linen supplier has table skirting, that they can put under the table cloth? Maybe even in one of your contrasting wedding colors. Just a thought.

So many meltdowns planning our wedding, but my husband was really good about kicking me in the pants and then helping me figure out what to do.

lol we’ve all been there. My meltdown was over stamps, of all things. I thought the post office was coming out with the new “garden of love” stamps May 1st, but they aren’t until the last week of May. My second choice was the king and queen stamps. We went to 5 post offices looking for those, to no avail. I cried over it, and I was soooo mad that we had to use the basket of pansies love stamp that didn’t match our theme or colors. Like anyone else gave a second thought to the stamp on their invitation. It seems dumb now, but that’s what stress does to you! You will be able to laugh about it in retrospect!

Oh my, I’ve certainly gone into full-blown meltdown mode before, so hugs to you!! Good luck with the DIYs you are working on. Just focus on one project at a time, pace yourself.
