Mrs. High Wire, Dallas Age and Occupation: 23, Legal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Director of Communications Engagement Date: October 9, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Clark Gardens About Me: My loves include yoga, anything spicy, our eccentric cat, our rambunctious dog, and Mr. High Wire, of course! Like the steadiness act of the tightrope walker, this gal is busy balancing life while planning a wedding to the man of her dreams. We’re hosting a laid-back, vintage-inspired, bird themed wedding with heavy doses of love, good eats (did someone say tacos and margaritas?), and endless Texas charm. Mr. High Wire and I are so happy to have you along for the walk across the tight rope.
About Mrs. High Wire

Before I get into our consults, I wanted to backtrack a little and show the flow of events of how this process went down.

Like I said in my previous post, I decided to check into day of coordination (DOC) in my area just to get a ballpark idea of what it would cost to have someone there on the day of to run things.

I set up an appointment with a local planner the following day and discussed with Mr. High Wire whether or not it would be a smart idea to spend the money to hire one. We decided that it was worth it.

As soon as I got off the phone with her, she actually called me back letting me know that she had another appointment that day with a bride who had the same wedding date as me! Was this a marketing ploy to get my business? If so, it was working. She said she would call me ASAP if the other bride ended up booking.

But the morning came to a close (no phone call—yay!), I got ready for my meeting (still no phone call), and headed toward the Starbucks.

I actually wound up being WAY early for the appointment (a rarity for me). So, I stopped for gas, took some time replacing my registration sticker on my car window, and then my phone rang. Nooooooo!

Yep, the other bride booked. It turned out that she had been talking with this other bride for a whole year and the bride couldn’t get herself to make a decision. Well, I guess knowing that I was about to swoop in and potentially book her planner gave her the final push she needed to book.

So, I left the gas station and drove home. I was pretty bummed, folks. But what can you do? I’m a big believer in “if it was meant to be it would have happened.”

Then after my massive Google search of Sunday afternoon, I heard back almost immediately from a planner who included everything I was looking for at a very reasonable price. We met, went over the packages, talked about what I wanted in a planner, and chatted about what our vision for the wedding was. She also detailed exactly how she works to make sure the wedding day is running smoothly and on time. We actually wound up talking for nearly an hour—my longest vendor meeting yet!

She had it all, folks! The price was right, and she told me she would do whatever it takes to get the job done. She’s happy to help anywhere that needs it…including the day before and one to two months leading up to the wedding. She even said her pricing is what it is because she genuinely wants to help all kinds of brides on their wedding day, not just the super rich. Yes, yes, and yes.

Shelley with Escada Weddings will be running the show! I can’t wait to work with her.

Ain’t she cute??

All in all, I think this will be a super-awesome addition to the High Wire wedding.

Have you had any planning mishaps that turned into something positive?

I’m a big believer in things don’t work out for a reason too, and it has been very true so far in wedding planning! It sounds like Shelley was a great choice for the HW wedding.

I almost purchased wedding invitations that I thought I loved, when I emailed the girl a couple of weeks later, she had raised her price over $300 for the same invitation! I got upset, look again on Etsy for 10 minutes and found an entirely different design that I love, love, love and that is under my budget!

As for a DOC, I desingely want to get one but in my area they are so expensive!! I’m still going to try though. Good score on finding one you love!

I wasn’t planning on it at all, until the venue we books includes one in the price. I didn’t realize how awesome she was until I realized how awesome she was. Now, I couldn’t imagine doing this without one…

Miss HW, I really needed to read your post this morning. We just received word last night that the caterer we had all but contracted with will not travel to the local island venue we have. We are so bummed but Que Sera, Sera!

While Shelley is a very hard worker, we were disappointed. Shelly had a difficult time prioritizing and following our desires, as well as controlling the timeline. Just be sue to check on her to keep her on track, we didn’t.
