Hi hive! Long time no talk! For those of you who may not remember me, I’m Mrs. Powder Puff (obvs) and I blogged for Weddingbee back in 2008 until the mister’s and my July wedding in 2009. Well, time flies, and we’re coming up on our two year anniversary. Feels like the millionth… JUST KIDDING! Time flies when you’re having fun, and who better to have fun with than your husband!
Marriage has been a wonderful journey so far. There have been ups and downs, and I feel like my relationship with Mr. Powder Puff continues to evolve and grow stronger. I love him even more today than I did on the day I married him, believe it or not.
The reason I’m popping my old married face back in here is to share with you all something that Mr. Powder Puff and I experienced recently that was a lot of fun.
A few weeks ago our fantastic wedding photographer Shutter Sam contacted us to ask if we would like to be her guinea pigs for a new genre of photography she was trying to branch out into- Beloved Photography. Now, a Beloved session isn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill photo sesh.
The goal of Beloved photography is to evoke real, genuine emotions from couples, rather than the pose-y pose-y, click-y click-y portraits that you see so often. Sam is so much fun, and she gave us some really awesome prompts (like, if Mrs. PP were a pastry, what would she be?), along with more serious, think-about-your-relationship prompts that really got us musing over why it is that we love each other in the first place.
You see, on a day-to-day basis, you (or at least I) don’t think too much about all that mushy stuff. Sure, you love your significant other, but you don’t really think about why. Delving into the prompts that Sam suggested gave us a reason to think beyond the “oh my gosh he left his socks on the bathroom floor AGAIN” stuff. It was almost like a renewal for our relationship. If you are engaged, married, or just in love, I’d completely, 100% recommend doing this sort of portrait session.
Not only did we really connect and enjoy ourselves during the shoot, but the photos turned out pretty awesome as well, if I don’t say so myself!

I love how accurately these photos depict our relationship—oodles of laughs, some jumping on one another, and lots and lots of love.
