About Mrs. Funnel Cake

Funerals and Wars

May 20th, 2011 @ 1:01 pm by Mrs. Funnel Cake

When Mr. Funnel Cake left for a business trip one night, I immediately began attacking the chocolate and watching TV. As a result of my loneliness, you get this blog post! Yippee! (You are excited, aren’t you?)

Chocolate and milk are my go-tos every time he leaves. I didn’t even like chocolate much before I came to Switzerland! The worst part is, now that Mr. FC doesn’t work in chocolate factories, our chocolate supply is getting dangerously low!

I was also trudging around the house with my wedding ring on, but don’t tell Mr. FC or he will kick my butt! I can’t help it…it’s so pretty and sparkly. If you guys are patient, maybe I will tell you about my rings before the big day.

We tried to sit down one night and work on the invitations some…and while a little progress was made, it was not much. I did make all these cute miniature invites to illustrate to Mr. Funnel Cake what we can do with our design:

Cutting out the ideas

What’s Mr. Funnel Cake doing back there?

He happened to be working on his friend’s bachelor party (oder Polterabend auf Deutsch).

OK. As long as he’s not playing videogames it’s fine by me.

Insides and outsides

Choosing whether to have pattern or not

The fake belly band! Because if we are wax-stamping these babies, we are NOT doing a real belly band as well!

Mr. Funnel Cake often kept saying he thought the invitation looked like a funeral announcement anytime we used black: “That black band looks like a funeral band!! We can’t do that!” or “That invitation looks like an announcement for deployment! It’s too ‘military’!” Le sigh. I had to remind Mr. Funnel Cake that he was the one who picked red, black, and white as our wedding colours and that if we don’t use black, we are really limiting ourselves. We could have included orange and yellow or some other autumn colours in the palette, but for now we are sticking to the very classic, very Swiss colour palette and style.

We seem to have agreed on what we like for the outside and inside, and we’ve got a general idea of how to put the text in once all that rewriting gets sorted out. We are going to put a photo inside, and at first Mr. Funnel Cake wanted to use this picture of a sand heart he drew in Brazil with our initials in it:

But I put a foot down about that. Our invitations are classic Swiss graphic-design pieces inviting guests to a fancy brunch in Columbus, Ohio in the autumn…the sand heart just doesn’t fit! Mr. Funnel Cake is really in love with the sand heart photos he took shortly before we were engaged, and I told him if we were doing a beach wedding or a destination wedding—something involving hot temperatures—that it would make sense. But for a cool autumn wedding in Columbus, it really doesn’t make sense with our theme. Once you choose a theme, stick with it! (Or at least try to.)

Instead, we’ll try to find a nice picture of us to include because I personally think it would be nice for our relatives to see the other person if they haven’t met them yet. Mr. Funnel Cake conceded that that probably is a good idea…

Did you stick to your wedding theme when you were designing your invites?

I love reading blogs and know what different event and wedding planners are doing out there. I love the way you describe everything and your photos are so descriptive.
I have a blog and would love to do an interview and put you on my blog. Let me know what you think.

maybe you can use the heart in the sand pic for your Thank you notes? A friend of mine did something just like that and made it the cover of TY note cards via Snapfish.

I love the mini invitation! I know they’re really only for a mock up, but there’s still so cute. There’s has to be some other way you can use them once you’re finished!

I’m not nearly crafty enough to navigate a teeny, tiny project like that… impressive!
