About Mrs. Sparkler

Let’s Party

May 20th, 2011 @ 11:45 am by Mrs. Sparkler

Lately I’ve been on the prowl for a post-reception dress. That is, a dress to wear when the party continues into the night… and it will. Most definitely. I never thought I would be a “two-dress bride.” Mostly because I just love, love, love my dress so much. But I have to admit, I’m probably not going to want to wear a long white dress out on the town. I would be too afraid of spilling something on it, tearing it, etc. Plus, I want to be comfortable when I’m slamming a late-night Guinness with my grandparents! (Seriously… they will definitely be out for the after party!)

So I’m looking for something short, something white, and something that’s a bit fashion forward. I want to stand out a little since, hey, it’s still my wedding day. :)

In dream world, I would wear this Stella McCartney shift with the shiny Brian Atwoods I showed you a while back:

Let’s Party : wedding chicago dress 1 1

Let’s Party : wedding chicago dress 2 2

Crepe shift dress via Net-a-Porter / Brian Atwood pumps via Saks Fifth Avenue

Sigh. But that’s dream world. $1200 for an after party dress? Sparkler’s wallet says, “No.” Thankfully, there are a TON of other (slightly cheaper) options out there! Here are my favorites so far:

Let’s Party : wedding chicago dress 3 3

BCBG Fei Fei Dress via Shopbop.com

Let’s Party : wedding chicago dress 4 4

Whit Dress via Saks Fifth Avenue

Let’s Party : wedding chicago dress 5 5

Nicole Miller Dress via Bloomingdales

Let’s Party : wedding chicago dress 6 6

BCBG Scalloped-Hem Dress

I’m just not sure. I’m not really sold on any of them. Are you a two-dress bride? Are you planning on changing for an after party? What are you wearing?

I love the BCBG and the Nicole Miller above! Sooo pretty! I was a one dress bride - I still want to wear my dress everyday, so clearly, I was not in the mindset of having more than one! Buuuuut, if I was partying in Chi-town (btw- I am from Chicago!) post wedding, I would def have gotten another frock! Can’t wait to see what you get!

are you still thinking about changing into a red dress like your mother did halfway during the reception and then changing again into another white dress for your post-reception? I love the BCBG Fei Fei dress!

YES - same! I didn’t want to be a two-dress bride for the actual wedding, but we are doing an after party also and I know by that point I’ll want to change into something short and fun (and more comfortable)! thanks for the pics - I haven’t been blown away by any short white dresses I’ve found yet either but you gave me some new ideas!

Same here! Staying in my dress until we go to the bar. I got a Sue Wong dress….
Here is a link to her dresses in Bloomingdales-

*I ordered it in champagne… it came in a little more blush than i thought, but I still love it!
Good Luck!

@guest2: I’m still doing the red dress! :) But I’m going to wear it to the rehearsal dinner instead! I decided I wanted to wear white all day, haha.

I love the Nicole Miller dress, although you’d look gorgeous in any of them! Can I say how freaking awesome your grandparents sound? I hope I can be that cool when I’m a grandparent.

You would totally rock all of these dresses - I really like the asymmetry of the Nicole Miller! Beautiful.

White House / Black Market has some GREAT options - and if you can find an outlet, usually some great prices!
I love the idea of an after-party dress!

My friend got her bridesmaid dress off this website: http://us.asos.com/ASOS-Shop-womens-fashion-mens-clothing-Free-Shipping-Returns/vzg2y/ . They have some amazing, fashion forward dresses at very reasonable prices. I saw some cute shift dresses like the to-die-for Stella you have a pic of :)

Miss Sparkler - I tried on the BCBG dress!! It is gorgeous!! And, it looks much better with a belt! If you could find a super cute white belt, or silver belt, it would looking beautiful.

I’m a two dress bride. I was going to wear my second dress for the rehearsal dinner, but the idea of wearing a tight strapless dress while I’m trying to sip whiskey and dance the night away doesn’t sound like fun. So I’m having my moms 1979 wedding dress shortened to above my knees. It has sleeves and all so dancing will be fun. And in case it’s cold I have every intention of finding some cute leggings to go with my cowboy boots.

I considered getting this Ruche dress:

Not exactly the same style you’ve pictures, but lovely nonetheless!

I am a 2 dress bride! We are having a back yard reception in August so I will be changing out of my gown pretty early on in the reception so I can be nice and comfy. I was literally at Lord & Taylor about an hour ago and saw the BCBG Fei Fei dress. Its sadly not that great in person. Its a little too plain for my liking, especially for the price. I have my eyes on a BCBG eyelet cocktail dress. I can’t find it anywhere so I think I’ll have to just order it online.

I really love the BCBG scalloped hem dress. I am still debating on whether or not to be a two-dress bride. I love the idea, though. I can’t wait to see what you pick!

I like the Nicole Miller and the second BCBG dress. There are also a ton of ideas here: http://www.thebrokeassbride.com/2011/04/cant-afford-itget-over-it-the-casual-reception-dress/

I’m going for a dramatic red dress for the reception, since our first dance is going to be a tango and our color scheme is black, white and red.

I am wearing a tea length reception dress to our “Until 4 in the Morn” celebration party. I love vintage dresses so I decided to have a replica made in China since I don’t have the time to comb thee shops or troll Ebay.
I do love my Girl but she has a chiffon train and I don’t want someone to step on her when I’m bar hopping.

Nordstrom’s wedding section as a ton of amazing dresses like these. If you have one in your area that has the wedding department, I’d highly recommend it!!

I’m staying in my one wedding dress as long as possible. Its really comfortable so I don’t think I’ll have any trouble. The venue is out of town, so there’s not much to do after the wedding as far as bars and such - so I don’t think I’ll need anything.
