Mrs. Snow Cone's Picture
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PA Age and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Engineer Engagement Date: April 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club reception About Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
About Mrs. Snow Cone

After evaluating our guestbook options, we were at an impasse. We liked the idea of having something that we could display in our home after the wedding, but we also liked the idea of having a guestbook that would allow our friends and family to leave us more personalized messages than just a signature.  Instead of picking one over the other, we just decided to do both options!

For our decor item, as per Mr. Snow Cone’s suggestion, we’re incorporating our college sports teams. We’re planning to have a Notre Dame football and a Pitt basketball available for our guests to sign.

Although this idea never crossed my mind in my preliminary brainstorming, I think it’s a pretty darned good option for us. We both bleed blue and gold, as they say…just for different teams. By using the football and basketball, we get to show off our school pride, personalize a small touch of the entire wedding day, and walk away with a cool piece of sports/wedding memorabilia to be displayed for years to come. Admittedly, Pitt and Notre Dame are pretty big rivals; however, as Mr. Snow Cone put it, because we’re highlighting different sports, it works out OK…there’s no direct competition going on here.

The second phase of our wedding guestbook will consist of index cards available for our guests to write personal messages to us. Ideally, these messages will consist of a combination of marriage advice, predictions, and well wishes. We’re planning to have a small stack of cards and some pens at each reception table so our guests can fill them out during the dinner portion, while time and sobriety are hopefully abounding. I’m looking forward to having some personal notes from our loved ones that we can store and hold on to for our years of marital bliss.

What are you using for your guestbook? Are you taking a traditional approach or something more modern?

We are doing the tree fingerprint thing, but the Mr. is bringing his Notre Dame gnome to take pictures with. (esp with the Notre Dame alums) Ah the Notregnome.

I’m so glad somewhat else is thinking about the sports route! We’re thinking of doing a white Bruins jersey with our new (shared) last name for people to write on. I’d love to do hockey sticks and get a puck with our pictures and wedding date on it, but I’m not sure if all the signatures would fit on it.

I LOVE that idea! My FI and his fam are huge WVU fans and I am a die hard Penn Stater. That would be an awesome idea. If only we were having more than 20 people at our wedding ha ha. Maybe I can find a way to incorporate this! I love it!

FI and I are doing a clothesline guestbook. We thought this would be a fun alternative that fits with our rustic wedding and add some beautiful decorative flair!

These are cute ideas! I think you could get some really fun and interesting notes after the alcohol starts flowing freely!

I was just wondering, how much is too much to ask your guests to sign?

Love this idea - as does my fiance (immediately after reading your post i sent it to him in an email)!

I’m a big Penn State fan and he is a big Pitt fan so we’re going to do footballs regardless that they are (or used to be) rivals, as well as a photobook guestbook. It may be a lot to “sign” but I think people will be on board with it!

Thanks for the fab idea!

This post makes me really glad that Mr. FW doesn’t read Weddingbee because he’d totally want to find a way to incorporate some type of sporty gear. But I will say I’ve softened to his idea of repping our undergrad alma maters in some way. I bet your guests are gonna love “autographing” your guest book!

We are collecting rocks from the beach where we are getting married (it is a rock beach, not sand) and having gusts sign them and fill a vase that we will display in our house after. At the rehearsal dinner we are doing Guest Mad Libs that I had customized on Etsy.

Cool! We still havent decided on our guestbook. We had posters for people to leave advice on for our engagement party and people wrote really inappropriate things on it so now I can’t display them anywhere :(

Hail to Pitt! Wow….he’s a Notre fan and you’re still marrying him?! Just kidding. I love this idea. We did a photo book for our guest book, but instead of pictures of us, we did pictures of stuff that is important to us - our high school mascot, our respective colleges, our favorite sports teams, cities we’ve traveled to together… Our guests could choose a page to sign that was a “link” to between us and them. Like, my college roommates signed on my college page, Matt’s Eagles fans friends signed on his Cowboy page… It was pretty cool, actually!

@lolo7835: bahahah I’ve never heard of a Notre Gnome before :)

@msbruin: I really wanted to find jerseys with our wedding date/year (like a Pitt 20 and a ND 11), but that wasn’t meant to be. Yours should turn out great!

@psu_grl: I think this idea could work for all sizes! I’m actually a wee bit nervous that we’ll be cramped for space on the balls…

@T.R.Bride: that sounds like it should fit right in with your rustic weddding - good choice!

@Miss Pony: haha that’s what I’m afraid of AND excited for :)

@pinkdiamonddolly: we’re expecting that because it’s just a quick signature on the sports ball, our guests won’t have a problem jotting a lengthier note on a card for us over the course of the evening.

@dbpsu18: glad you like it!

@Ms. Ferris Wheel: haha yeah… including sports into the wedding definitely sparked Mr. SC’s interest :)

@Amanda (modernation): I LOVE mad libs… what a cool idea!

@emma5w: that sounds really original! (oh, btw, I’m the ND fan, he’s the Pitt guy… so I guess you could say he’s still marrying me!)

I do like the conduct in which you have framed this nice conundrum extra it does indeed proposal me himself a assignment of fodder after gratuity. In any case, from what I have witnessed, I simply make as the manifest responses over-abundance on that men and women tend on consummation and not start upon a outburst of some other press release du jour. All the same, thanksgiving owing to you for this outstanding focus and whilst I can not begin along with the approximation in aggregate, I regard the standpoint.
