About Mrs. High Wire

Today we’re going to chat a bit about flower girls.

First, a few tidbits:

Flower girls usually proceed down the aisle before the maid of honor, following the ring bearer, if you have one. Sending two flower girls down the aisle at the same time helps to add confidence to the girls and gives them a buddy to walk down the aisle with. We plan do send two at a time, for sure. Make sure to explain their duties well in advance, and allow their parents to pump the kids up with pep talks.

Flower girls can choose to either sit with their parents after walking down the aisle or stand up with the rest of the bridal party. Our two eldest girls will probably remain standing.

One weekend my FMIL and I wound up at the mall to start getting some ideas about flower girl dresses. We’re having a total of four girls in the wedding party, who will be ages four, five, ten, and twelve for the wedding. The four- and five-year-old both have the most beautiful fiery red hair, and it goes perfectly with these dresses we found. They look like sisters but are actually first cousins.

Hair in discussion at Easter:

High Wire Bridal Party: The Littlest Ones : wedding dallas flower girls

The dresses we found were on sale for $30 each! We figured we might as well go ahead and pick them up, and if they didn’t work we could return them.

We went to have the little girls try on the dresses to see if they would work. And they did! Then they refused to take them off. :) That’s a good sign!

The coolest part of it all is that the dresses come with an identical miniature version of the dress that fits on these adorable dolls. The line is called Dollie & Me. We plan on surprising the little girls with the dressed up dollies the night of the rehearsal dinner! Then they can take them down the aisle if they want to.

Do you plan to have kids in your bridal party? Are they cousins? Children of friends of yours?

Do you have apic of the dresses? Those girls are adorable. I will be having my twin nieces as flower girls and my FI niece. All around 2 1/2 at the time. Hope they make it down the aisle :)

My Matron of Honor is my cousin and my flower girl is going to be her daughter (so I guess she’d be my second cousin?)

@rmarie3: My flower girl will be just over 2 1/2 (to be exact she’ll be 2 years 8 months). Are you at all worried that your flower girl is too young? My mom swears mine will be too young, but I’m trying to be chill about it & just keep saying that we will wait and see the day of, because its not a huge deal if she’s fussy and won’t do it.

No kids for us, simply because we don’t have any to use! We’re getting married at 23/24, so most of our friends don’t have any (and the ones that do are babies), and we’re the oldest kids (and first grandchildren, or close to it) in our families, so no nieces/nephews/2nd cousins or anything…

I was a flower girl at my aunt’s wedding when I was 4 and didn’t end up walking down the aisle….luckily they had an older one lined up too who wasn’t as scared. It’s intimidating!

@soontobe - we aren’t too worried. We know 3 toddlers probably don’t have a good chance at making it down the aisle - but at least they will be cute/funny trying :) We are hoping with three that they will do it together - one is pretty fearless and we hope the twins follow her.

Also - I was just in a friends wedding and the ring bearer was about 3. He wouldn’t walk down the aisle in rehearsal - but for the actual ceremony they had the best man kneel at the end with a bag of his fave jelly beans. Needless to say - he RAN the whole way once his mom told him what it was. Made for a ton of laughs and some awesome photos!

I have 2 flower girls and 2 ring bearers (my neices and nephews) The girls are 8 and 6, the boys will be 6 and 5 at the time of the wedding.

I’m still trying to coordinate with their parents (my sister and sister in law really) to sort out what they’re going to wear. I’m actually starting to get tired of dealing with it… Its taken way longer than finding bridesmaid dresses.

oooh I LOVE The Dollie & Me line! :) We’re having three flower girls in our wedding and had a hard time finding dresses for them.

Are you dressing the two girls alike? I bet the photos are going to look soooo cute with the matching dolls ! :)

My 4 year old identical twin cousins will be our flower girls. They will be the only children at the wedding and they are so excited to be flower “princesses”. :)

My daughter will be almost 5 at my wedding, and will be my flower girl.

My little sister will be 8, I havent figured out yet what to do with her.
Maybe a jr. bridesmaid? Or a flower girl too?

Love your flower girl dresses btw, and the girls’ hair is just beautiful!

You got engaged on my wedding date!
We had DH’s 3 nieces–ages 3, 4, and 7 at the time of the wedding. One ringbearer and 3 jr groomsmen (my nephews) plus one jr bridesmaid (my niece).

Burlington Coat Factory is a great place to get FG dresses, especially right before Christmas or Easter.

I love children in weddings–I also had always wanted to be a flower girl when I was little but never had a chance–so now, we are able to have 3 flower girls: My FI’s 11 year old daughter, and his two nieces: 3yr and 5 yr. My mom is sewing some dresses for them.

Ohhh… kids in weddings are so cute!! I’m having two flower girls - a 2 year old and a 7 year old - and one 9 year old ringbearer. My sister will be have a three-month old baby girl at the time of my wedding. I want her to come to the wedding, but I don’t know how that will work out.

Your flower girls are adorable in that they didn’t want to take the dresses back off!

We’ll have three flower girls; two are my granddaughters, ages 6 and 2 at the time of the wedding and my then 6-year-old niece (also a lil redhead). Our ring bearer is my older niece, J who will then be 11. We have to wait until much closer to the date to find dresses but have a couple cuties in mind.
