Mrs. Balloons's Picture
Mrs. Balloons, Aspen, CO Age and Occupation: 24, Mass Communications graduate, Web Design student, & winery worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Engineer Engagement Date: July 10, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: The Sundeck at The Little Nell About Me: I'm a small-town Midwest girl planning an intimate mountaintop destination wedding complete with a huge DIY at-home reception. As an honors graduate fallen victim to the worst job market in history in my area, we're doing everything we can to still have the wedding of our dreams on a tighter budget. I currently enjoy working at a winery, but I'm lonnng overdue for a day job! I am: a big-time daydreamer, one of the pickiest eaters you'll ever meet, and a lover of pretty paper and awesome fonts. I'm a girly girl who loves to get dolled up, but also a country girl who loves to get muddy and go 4-wheeler riding. I also enjoy singing in the car, boating, going to concerts, the History Channel, carnival food, and going to watch St. Louis Cardinals baseball with my handsome engineer.

A New Obsession

May 23rd, 2011 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Balloons

As if I don’t already have enough DIY projects on my hands, I have now become a tad bit obsessed with bunting. At first I didn’t really get the appeal. I thought it was cute, but I didn’t understand why it was popping up all over the blogosphere. Well, thank you, dear blogs…because now I’m in love. There is just something about bunting that can be so fun and whimsical. Let’s ponder some ideas, shall we? Here’s what I’m thinking…

How adorable would this be for a photo-booth background?!

It also looks pretty adorable on little cakes:

Loving the idea of it being an unexpected surprise as an envelope liner!

So now I’m just trying to decide exactly which bunting projects I’d like to take on and which is the best way to go about DIY-ing. I’ve seen both card stock and fabric versions, but I think I’m leaning toward fabric. I’ll have to do some research on cheap but pretty fabric to see what the cheapest route would be. I’ve also seen some Etsy shops that sell DIY-bunting kits that are fairly inexpensive.

Do you have any experience with creating bunting? What did you find to be the best yet least expensive way of creating it?

I love bunting on cakes and as part of the decor. Although it will not be making an appearance at our wedding, because it doesn’t fit our venue/decor ideas.

To be perfectly honest, I had not given bunting a second thought…until I looked at these pictures. I particularly like the last one. We are having a backyard wedding and are getting married between two HUGE pine trees with our reception in a tent and I’ve been searching for something…anything to decorate with (both the tent and between the 2 pine trees. This just may be the way to go…Please share what you learn!!!

I want to make a few small buntings for my engagement shoot. Like K + S or the wedding date that we could hold. I really have no clue how to make them but I’m enlisting the help of a very crafty friend so hopefully we’ll end up with something cute.

Yes, bunting is adorable! I love the fabric versions and I think it would be so cute in your colors, I say go for it!

I’ve been making a TON of bunting of the mini-cardstock variety (a la Mrs. Stripes) to hang at our engagement party. I love it! I’d like to try the fabric version, but I don’t think I have the skill or patience, lol. BTW, that card liner is too cute!

Yay, today is a bunting day! These are gorgeous photos you found, too. I just love the ones as a photobooth backdrop!

I’m also racking my brain trying to decide between paper and fabric buntings. I personally think the fabric ones have more character (read: texture), but they could potentially be more time-consuming.

I scored some vintage hankies (lots of em) at $1 each (a DOLLAR!!) and am creating a bunting using hankies and photographs with a fine knotted hemp rope to hang above our gift table.

Also considering creating the same look to use for our STDs but have no clue yet - just throwing ideas around still…lots of time.

Oh my gosh I just love seeing welovepictures photos all over the place! They are photographing our wedding in January next year and I couldn’t be more excited! We still need to decide what background they are going to do for our photobooth!

On the bunting, I made a whole lot (40m in fact) for our engagement party and it looked amazing! It was really easy and so effective!I bought a selection of fabrics and white tape fabric like stuff (I am no sewer so excuse the lack of terminology here) and sewed it straight onto that!(By me, I mean my future sister in law.) I printed a template I found off the internet for the triangles. It was really cheap to do, don’t buy a kit!!

I made bunting for our cocktail table and another for the cake table. I just bought a variety of cotton fabrics and cut out the triangles using a template I found online. I then pinned it to the bias tape and ran it through the sewing machine. I am loving the inspiration photos you posted, if I had time I would make more!

I am a bunting-obsessed-bride too! I actually made a row for our engagement part and used jute string that the future hubby has laying around - got my colored fabric (with a coupon) and cut and hot glued — instead of sewing… it turned out just as good since it was so high up and although it would have been nice to sew… I have a billion sewing projects to do.

I think you get more bang for your buck (and time investment) with the smaller scale projects, like the cake topper and invites.

bunting is one of those things I never knew existed before diving into wedding blogs. it doesn’t really fit with our wedding look, but it still steals my heart.
