Lord & Lady of the Rings

May 24th, 2011 @ 5:33 pm by Ms. Gazelle

The Gazelles ticked another big item off the to-do list—we got our wedding bands! With less than two months to go I think we cut things a bit close but we managed to luck out.

See, the thing is, we put off buying our wedding bands for so long because we were waiting for the Tiffany & Co. jewellery store to open up here in Calgary. I was pretty sure I wanted a simple platinum band that matched the band on my engagement ring.

Well…I trotted on down to the new store within the first week of opening, tried on the wedding band and I just didn’t love it. Instead I fell in love with a circle of thin diamonds that was way out of our price range.

Since I found the look that I loved I tried to see if I could find it for less. We lucked out at Calgary Jewellery.

It was the perfect ring, at the perfect price, and in the perfect size. Want to see it again?

And here it is with my engagement ring…

We lucked out that the ring in the case just happened to be in my size. If we would have had to order a ring we might have had a tough time getting it in time for our July wedding. So Hive, don’t do what I did—don’t put off the search for your wedding band for too long!

As for Mr. Gazelle? He decided to go for a tungsten carbide ring with a carbon fibre accent. It looks very cool and very manly and modern!

We also lucked out in that the standard size rings in most of the jewellery store just happened to fit Mr. Gazelle. He’s definitely very happy with the style of his ring.

The only thing is I was Googling for an image of the ring to show BM-D…and…I found it online for significantly less! We ordered the other ring, we’ll compare it to the original ring and probably return the more expensive ring.

Did you almost wait too long to buy your wedding bands? Did you find your ring online for a lot less than what you originally found it for?

Your story sounds almost exactly like mine! I have pretty much the exact same engagement ring as you and always thought I wanted a plain band. Like you, though, I didn’t love it when I tried it on, and instead, I fell in love with a slender diamond band, which I had never expected!

Mr. G got the same wedding band as my husband! Hopefully the cheaper one online is still $99! Mr. C has been wearing his for almost a year now, with no scratches or anything, so you can’t beat that price.

Your wedding band is gorgeous too!

Oh maybe I should get on finding bands for us! We are almost at the 3 month mark and haven’t found anything yet. My e-ring has a thick band so in order to get a wedding band to compliment it I need a thicker band there as well…which means more $. Probably the main reason we have been putting it off.

I love your wedding band, it matches perfectly and is so pretty! Hopefully the cheaper version of Mr. G’s works and you can save some money.

i love your bands!! I did the same thing…I walked into the jewelry store saying, “$500 max, not a penny more” and then immediately did the bride fail of trying on something out of my price range. Needless to say, I’ll be living on ramen noodles until the wedding. :-) I didn’t wait too long though…I’m super picky about getting things done early so I don’t have anything to worry about right before the wedding!

We had a similar things happen with my FI’s band. He found one in a jewelry store that he loved, and then we found it for $400 less online! We called the jewelry store (that we bought my e-ring from) and said we would love to give them the business if they could price-match what we found online…. and they did! We just had to send them a link to the website to that they could see it was the exact same ring for less, and we got a great deal!

I love Tiffany & Co. it’s my favorite so I had to get my e-ring from there… I love their micro bands… I didn’t want a traditional engagement ring so instead I got 2 micro bands as my e-ring… One is diamond and the other is amethyst…I’ll probably get another diamond band after the wedding but right now they are too expensive for us so I’m just going to get a thin plain band for the wedding… Anyway I love your micro band with your e-ring… It looks amazing… Great choice!!

We also lucked out that my finger happened to be the sample size for both my engagement ring and wedding band. Didn’t work out so well for Mr. High Wire though! His will need to be specially ordered.

For a lot of the mens tungsten/titanium rings, shopping online is much less expensive. The same ring my fiance liked in the jewelry store was around 75 dollars on overstock.com (including a 4 yr warranty) In store it was $250!
