Paper Napkin Folding Tutorial

May 24th, 2011 @ 2:03 pm by Mrs. Crepe

I knew there were tons of little things to get done as soon as I was in town, so as soon as the plane touched down, I started fluffing those tissue poms. I would have loved to have fabric napkins (there are so many cute options!) but we were getting to the point where the budget was getting pushed closer and closer to the limit every day and paper napkins meant one more thing we could take off the checklist. We picked up a couple packs of royal blue dinner napkins from Party City and started tying the tissue poms on quickly.

We looked up a bunch of different ways to fold napkins but it turns out that all the pretty ways to do it were for fabric napkins. So we winged it a bit by turning the napkin on its side and folding one end over about 2/3 of the way…

.. and then folding the other side to meet the 2/3 fold.

I folded the small side over again to create a kite shape.

And then I finished it by typing my pom onto the lower pointy part of the napkin.

They’ll be set on gold foil doilies as place settings.

Did you end up using paper napkins, too? How did you display them?

We are using fabric napkins as our venue is providing them. I went to a wedding once with paper napkins and thought it was very budget looking. Not something I wanted for my wedding.

The poms add a nice touch to the blue!

I think these look fabulous! I didn’t even think about doing paper - I guess I just assumed that I had to do fabric! But it makes sense to do paper, if only because we’ll probably have a ton of kids at our reception, and it’ll be nice to be able to just have extra napkins in case of messy faces, spills, etc…

(Nothing worse than accidentally knocking over your drink and then no one at your table having a napkin because you all used your fabric ones to clean up!)

Thank you for posting this! We’re also doing paper napkins and I’ve feeling kinda self concious about it! While we probably could squeeze the money out for fabric nampkins I really really hate them! I never feel like I get clean using them!

@Miss Cotton Candy: I know! Especially when you wipe off something greasy, and then when you go to use the napkin again, you get the greasiness back on your hand… yuck!

I think they look good, as much as some people want to play up little things at the end of the day no one really notices. I giggle at some of the DIY crap because honestly its just fruitless in the big scheme of things.

@Miss Trailmix, if you are going to put things out there, you can’t really expect everyone to love it, people have different opinions. I think sometimes this site is sooooo gooey sweet it can give you diabetes.

Absolutely HEART the poms!! :) It’s going to look amazing!!!! Can’t wait to see everything together!!

And yes, totally agree - cloth napkins never seem to get you clean (and some tend to shed all over clothes, not pretty!)! Love the color combo as well! You rock lady.
