Mrs. Snow Cone's Picture
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PA Age and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Engineer Engagement Date: April 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club reception About Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
About Mrs. Snow Cone

When looking for some makeup inspiration, I decided I’d start with celebrities with hair color similar to my own, since redheads kind of have their own wonky coloring. I figured makeup looks that work for ginger celebs would (in theory) work for me.

Let’s play a game. Quick, name some redheaded celebrities. Common answers (according to Google images): Amy Adams, Lindsay Lohan (pre-druggie days), Nicole Kidman (pre-monochromatic skin + hair days), Julianne Moore, and Marcia Cross. Now let’s take a closer look:

All beautiful, for sure. Nevertheless, none of these photos really seems like a great makeup option for me, for one main reason. Need a hint?

The big issue: none of these popular redheaded starlets have brown eyes! Take another look: Amy = blue, Lindsay = blue, Nicole = blue, Julianne = green, Marcia = blue. Not a brown pair in the mix. Plus, just to add insult to injury, I’m not really on par with their hair color. They are all true redheads, while I dabble more in strawberry-blonde-hood. When you type “strawberry blonde celebrity” into Google images, here’s a sampling of what you get:

Never mind the fact that both Jessica and Sienna are faux-strawberry blonde, neither of them really matches my overall coloring. Ms. Alba is a couple thousand shades tanner than I’ll ever be, and then Ms. Miller has those blasted baby blue eyes again.

Apparently finding a celebrity with strawberry blonde hair and brown eyes is quite the task. As with all things in wedding planning, I had to resort to plan B in order to find some wedding-makeup inspiration from my celeb friends: girl crushes.

Did you have a hard time finding makeup looks for your natural color palette? What celebrities do you look to for makeup inspiration?

It’s tough being a redhead, I hear ya!! I’m looking to those same celebs for make-up inspiration although my make-up artist is pushing me towards all brown hues for the eyes I’m leaning towards a darker mix…. I like the dramatic and think the browns just add to the “my hair and skin is nearly the same color” effect. haha =)

I looked to Anne Hathaway for my makeup inspiration. She and I have very similar coloring in skin, hair, and eyes. Good luck in finding your celebiritsation.

I haven’t even thought out the make-up, since I’m having one of my FI’s model-friends do my make-up (and she is AWESOME!!!).

Plus, I’ve got pretty flawless skin, highlights of red, blonde, and brown/bronze (weird, I know, especially since my hair is more red than anything else), and eyes that go from gray to blue. Yep, mood ring eyes. Here’s hoping they stay BLUE all day on my wedding day, lol.

good luck with the make-up!!! I’m the LAST person on Heaven, Earth, or Hell who can give suggestions, lol.

I have the same problem finding makeup ideas! I am a redhead with very light almost hazel eyes. I’m just going to go in for my trial and tell her to do what she can.

I hear you sister. As a ginger with brown eyes, I hav found it very difficult to find redhead/brown-eyed make up inspiration.

I have the more typical red hair and green eyes. I’m using Amy Adam’s look from the Nov. 2008 Vanity Fair cover (http://thebosh.com/archives/2008/10/amy_adams_vanity_fair_november_2008.php) as my inspiration. True, she has blue eyes instead of green, but I’m going light on the eye shadow so I don’t think it matters much.

I don’t think you’ll have such a hard time deciding makeup… brown eyes go with every single eye shadow out there. just consider you hair. I think golds and earth colors on your eyes will look great and a slight pink gloss and you’ll be all set!
