The Polterabig Finishes

May 24th, 2011 @ 4:02 pm by Mrs. Funnel Cake

After Sandra found her first set of coordinates at the starting point of her Polterabig (Swiss bachelorette party), we set out with her on a trek all around Zürich.

A gaggle of girls following the bride

At each new location Sandra had to find her clue, which ended up being a story about how she knew one of the girls in the group.

Finding clues!

When Sandra guessed who the story was about, she was given a new card from the girl in question that had a new set of coordinates. If she guessed wrong, she was supposed to give up one of the small presents we had all brought her. Luckily, she got to keep them all!

Warm…warmer…hot!

All the stories were in Swiss German. A little hard for me to understand, but I tried to follow along.

A champagne break was required.

Did I mention the weather was gorgeous on Saturday? Mountains and blue sky…heavenly!

One of the coordinates even required a boat trip on the lake!

We needed more champagne on the boat detour…

I was really happy I had sent the coordinators a small text about what I have in common with Sandra…even if it was just a line saying we both like margaritas and that she should drink tequila because it’s “healthy.” Being part of the game helped me feel included, and when Sandra read my story she immediately laughed because she knew it was me. And we did drink margaritas later that night!

…strawberry margaritas!

After all the coordinates and stories were found, we headed to a Mexican restaurant where we ate fajitas together and enjoyed drinks and chatter until nearly 3 AM.

I amused everyone with my attempts at speaking Swiss German, too. “Esch guet!”

Around 1 AM, Sandra wanted me to find out how her fiancé was doing with the boys…at which point Mr. Funnel Cake sent me this photo, which I think he’ll kill me for putting on the internet. I blurred the face in case I’m caught. Needless to say, the girls LOVED seeing this!

Oh Mr. FC, what have you done?

I stayed until the end to make sure I didn’t miss any of the activities that went on because I was curious about the whole event. I thought the Polterabig was well planned, very thoughtful, and fun. I’m glad no one drank too much and that it didn’t get too crazy like some of the stories I’ve heard about Swiss bachelor(ette) parties.

The girls also told me that it was my turn next and that I haven’t gotten off the hook just because I’ve done my civil union already. So maybe there is a Polterabig in the future for me…

What are some of your favourite memories from bachelorette/hen parties?

Strawberry margaritas, yum! Having my sister and husband work on a to do list for mine was the best part. It was hilarious.

The scavenger hunt is such a fun idea! I am glad you got to experience this, even though there was a language barrier - what better way to learn, right? Thanks for sharing with us - it is neat to find out what other cultures do for wedding events!
